Looking for an action for a build

What is a relatively good and easy to come by action that I could do a decent short magnum build with? Something that has plenty of options when it comes to sticks and triggers etc would be nice aswell. Who would have them? I am also a left hander aswell.

    Thanks

Rem 700 will probably have the most options, unless you want to go for a Rem 700 clone such as a stiller or similar. Rem 700 short action will probably need the magazine lengthening to get the most out of the cartridge in terms of seating depth.
You could use a Tikka action but I'm pretty sure Greg Duley doesn't like building short magnums on a Tikka because the action diameter/barrel diameter is a bit smaller and can get pressure problems and sticky extraction.
Some guys like the Savage actions because you can do most yourself (at least in the US) with pre-chambered barrels and an action spanner and the appropriate go/no go gauges. But the parts aren't quite as easy to get in NZ.

Remington have released the Model 7 line again

    $1500 nzd

One of the chamberings they offer is 300 wsm.

Just a barrel swap gives you whatever you want

Was leaning towards a 7mm wsm of something like that or something else with easy to obtain brass and data etc.

The seven has a shorter rear bridge and larger ejection port

Model 7 is shorter than Rem 700. The length has been removed from the rear action bridge. The magazine length is the same as a Rem 700 short action. Barrel thread is the same as a Rem 700. Trigger is similar, the bolt release is different.

HRE does a LH Rem700 clone.

Short action Remington rifles may struggle to mag feed the 7mmwsm when loaded with high bc bullets in a standard throat chambering. A 7mmsaum may be a wiser choice.

Alternatively, you can mill out the mag and gain some magazine size like I've done to mine. It's not that hard to do, and allows mag feeding...but the cases are so fat you can only get a couple in the mag. For me that's fine, its for long range hunting...not mob shooting goats.

Or use a long action to begin with :-)

Here's a link to me modifying a rem700 to fit 7mmwsm with long 162amax projectiles.

i had a read of your makeover thread during my lunch break today you did a nice job of it. was your wsm a short action to start? i thought of the wsm because you can squeeze that little bit extra out of it with those bigger pills, iv got no issues milling out bits and pieces to make it better i just need a good base to start with.
