My friend has lost his bolt from his .308 stainless Weatherby. I understand they're the same as a Howa? Are these easy/affordable to get or is a whole new rifle more realistic?
No one has one lying around by chance? There's still a chance he will find it though.

What are they doing? Rifle in safe, but bolt in a cupboard draw?
Or is this losing the bolt when hunting? I've been hunting with someone who did that, rifle over shoulder, bolt open rattling about :yuush:, bolt release banged against his day pack strap and it fell out.
After back tracking back down the Urutawa hillside following our exact tracks, lucky for him I saw it sitting in the stream.

My bolt action bolts are kept in the seperate locked compartment of safe, when the rifle comes out, bolt goes in and doesn't come out until the rifle is going back in the safe.
Only exception if I'm at a public hut and then I'll put the bolt in my bum bag pocket.
The price of the Howa it is probably more cost effective to get a new rifle. Could maybe get one with the same action in a different calibre and get the 308 head spaced to match the new bolt; share the bolt between rifles. Could go for more of a varmint round 243 or something smaller.

Rifles often get stolen without a bolt (locked away somewhere else) - but then I'm a suspicious bastard. Not casting doubts on anyone here - just sayin'.

FYI, the weatherby vanguard bolts are actually a bit different to the Howa ones, and will not drop straight in. I have had to modify a few Howa ones to fit the vanguards for guys who had lost them. Job usually done for insurance company. Main difference is in the extraction cam area. When H&F had the wby agency parts supply was problematic. Steve Collings has the agency now, so hoping that parts supply and availability should improve. Not sure if he has any bolts in stock yet, but I did suggest it to them last year when they were asking about what they should be keeping on hand for service/spares, etc.
