    Why not put a foresight on the can? The can screws up to the same spot each time, so it shouldn't move once you have worked out where the right place is. I've been meaning to make something up along the lines of a ring bored to the diameter of the can, with a blade foresight attached and a couple of set screws to hold it in place.
