    m14 mounts

    Hey team,

bought a scope mount for my M14 some time ago, finally got around to mounting it.

Lines up reasonably ok but there is a slight issue. The elevation is "considerable". when i took it apart to investigate i think I've found the issue, the rear point of contact, where you drift out the stripper clip feeder, is off and when you put it together it pulls it considerably out off line, hopefully the photo below gives an idea.

    ANY sensible ideas.....

was thinking of making a shim at the rear, somehow tapping into the rear aspect of where the stripper clip was and then screw through and into the shim????? OR do i epoxy it in somehow???

How is the front connected? Obviously there needs to be some tension/slight misalignment at the rear in order to hold the mount firmly. But that does look like too much.

The front has a grub screw that makes contact with the front of the receiver, it almost is just there to only just touch so as to give support under recoil.

the rear has a small wedge that fits into where the stripper clip is feed into, then the rear of the mount screws into that, sort of like in the attached image, however, in order to get the rear of the sight in place it cantilevers the mount "a lot" upwards

I had this exact same problem when I had my m14. My best advice is to buy some burris signature z rings and the offset insert it and try and compensate for the misalignment that way. I suspect the Chinese receivers have the stripper clip mount in a different place to the us receivers.

I still have a rubber but pad and 7 round mag left over from owning my m14 if you are interested.

was considering M14.CA | M14/M1A CASM Scope Mount

Had a set of Burris Z rings for my NRA FTR rifle but in different diameter....bugger it all! will try and shim the rear to force the front down but think I'm fighting a loosing battle!!!!

Rubber butt pad hmmmm could be interested!

More practice with iron sights? I gave up on aftermarket SKS mounts. If it's a Norinco M305 you'll probably have the same problems

You also need the offset insert kit. I have the kit and maybe a spare set of rings (1 inch) if you want try it out to see if it has enough adjustment to fix it before going out and buying anything. I am in Rolleston so PM if you are keen.

Yeah still on my wishlist, will get one when funds permit. Wonder if it's cheaper to get it sent to a mate in the sates and then get him to send it to me?

Exporting out of the US is much much harder than exporting out of Canada.

^What MassiveAttack said. That's one of the reasons I first went looking for mounts from non-US websites.

What do they cost in NZD? I'm going to get one down the line but could split the freight with you if you're getting one soon. Save us both a little bit anyway.

They actually seem to be a lot cheaper now, last time I checked the shipping was over $60NZD. At the moment it looks like you'd get one here for $180NZD all up which is a steal. Two in one order doesn't increase the shipping cost which is nice, but for what you'd save it's probably not worth it by the time one of us ships the other mount to the other guy lol
