I have a fair bit of experience with the 243 & AI as my wife had one as her favorite rifles for years ,built on a Mod 7 as well as hunting all game here it was also used in Africa ,UK & Australia .In Australia l even used it to drop a Buffalo attacking a local stockman at a water hole at 114 paces.
When we re-barreled it & had it suppressed the gunsmith supplied a chart they use in the UK for barrel length considerations. using the Rem 80grn loads as a base -
24" = 3123 fps
22" = 3055 fps
20" = 2965
18"= 2899
16"= 2800
We went with 18 "as the min allowing for pay off when suppressed & were very happy with it ,she only just changed to a to cheap to let go Sako Mod 75 in 7/08 l brought off here a couple of years ago, after a decade hunting with that Mod 7 243.
