    Marlin 7mm08

Have a marlin7mm08 and she shoots like shit @100yds with hornady factory ammo. How can you tell the rifling in barrel is gone. Also was thinking or cutting her down to bushpig style with dan hardy and sighting it for 50yds as this is as far as it gets wherei go hunting in the roar will this efect the accuracy even more??? Cheers guys

Generally the bore will be pitted or black looking but not all bad looking bores shoot bad. I had a 243 many years ago that had bad pitting but it still shot well. The muzzle is very important if there is damage there most guns will shoot bad. You could try re crowning if it looks suspect. Also try some other brands of factory ammo, it may just not like Hornady, hand loads could be the ticket to improve accuracy. I read somewhere that those Marlin M7 were pretty good shooters, yours might just be a bad one?

I have experience with one of these.

How long have you owned it, has it ever shot well and it has now deteriorated?

I had mine from new, it always use to shoot my handloads really well at .5 -.75" @100, then pretty much all of a sudden it started grouping around 3.5"

I finally discovered that it was a carbon fouling problem. After a good scrub out with a patch with autosol it was back to shooting 3 shots touching again.
