What type of stocks do you prefer and do you need or use a cheek riser using any chassis system?
XLR stock looks good, does anyone in NZ stock them?
Yip the XLR stock looks quite trick but at this time I prefer the AR telescopic type for flexibility although I have not tried it yet with maybe a Magpul cheek riser.
No Idea if the XLR stock is readily available here.
Have played with an MDT, dunno which model, and was surprised how heavy it all was (223 rem700). Weighed a ton, seemed to have a chunk more mass than the only DPT one I fingerbanged, which was bare (@beaker's, DPT number 0001). If I had to buy one or the other based on that, I'd buy DPT as he is a forum sponsor
They dont do the Ruger (DPT), contacted them several times with no apparent interest in making one so I went to who do, I also purchased one for my Remington LTR .308 might as well, two sales lost to DPT !
I also preferred the Brownell's FDE finish and the M-Loc forend design, just my opinion.

id be looking a lot closer at DPT if they did howa.
I have an MDT HS3 chassis on a long range hunting rifle I use. I like it, very accurate but agreed on the heavier side. Have just brought a HS precision stock so will try it in that too. What action are you using?
Have the DPT and do struggle getting a nice sight picture at times
Dead eyed Dicks in Levin used to do the XLR chassis. Not sure if they still do, but could be worth hitting them up.
I got one of the XLR Carbon chassis, with the tactical butt stock. Very nice piece of kit.
And to answer the OP's question - 100% use the cheek riser, as well as the length of pull adjustment. It just makes it easier to get a good sight picture through the scope really fast.
Hi guys, also take a look at the Oryx chassis: https://oryxchassis.com. This is a good budget option.
We do also make the MDT LSS, LSS-XL, ESS and even the MDT ACC for Howa!
@MDT do you ship directly?
@xtightg I'm surprised it works out cheaper buying from Brownells. Afaik, MDT ship direct. They also have distributors in NZ (although the guy I've used has gone quiet).
I recently bought a MDT ACC chassis from Target Dynamics Intl here in NZ. Price was the same as I could direct import and I didn't have to deal with permits etc.
It's an awesome chassis for it's intended use. I wouldn't be wanting to run it on a hunting rifle though unless you want plenty of weight.
Target Dynamics International Limited - Home
I get a bit fed up with people advertising gear they dont have then want me to pay them in advance for them to import said goods so I just do it direct and cut out the delay and cost same with warranty issues and repairs.
I also prefer the Brownell's version.
I tried to contact Target Dynamics International Limited today I could only see an email contact and I could not get by the picture verification tried several times to send the email, could be my PC.
Ive owned a couple of MDTs an XLR and handled a few DPTs wich are all much of a muchness. All well made gear and customizable with your favorite AR stocks and grips. The difference in some of the stock designs mean some have a bit of drop in the stock but others are simalar ergonomics to a flat top AR15 and need a bit of a cheek riser.
My personal favourite was the XLR prototype bullpup chassis but it never went into production.

Theres also an Aussie made Bullpup chassis By Steve at Precision Rifle Products.

MDT do shop direct but the air freight from Canada is hugely pricey. If your not in a hurry you can do sea freight for a 1/4 of the price. They also do one sale a year (Black Friday). I am planning to wait until Black Friday and then order the ESS for my Howa 6.5CM with sea freight.
rrough idea on costs?
If you are replying to me... I think I worked out roughly $1400 landed for the ESS with a 15” no rail forend and the standard ESS buttstock. That is including sea shipping, but with approximating what they were on sale for last Black Friday.
Just go on the website and build it up as you would and go through the process to shipping and then convert the currency.
Just ordered a FDE Magpul CTR stock and Two Magpul FDE CTR 3/4 Cheek Risers from Brownell's to fit to my new chassis.
I have also applied for an Permit to Import (no arguments with NZ customs) awaiting response.
My chassis and other parts should hit NZ within the next few days again await response, will they disappear into the admin black hole?
It would have been better to get the permits first. They can destroy your items if they want, but with luck and the current fiasco and back log they will let you apply retospectively.
But now you need a permit for EVERYTHING... good thing is its taking about 1.5~2 weeks at the moment.
Shipping options are on the website! If you need us to hold off on a shipment send us an e-mail once the order is placed. We can be reached via our support portal. https://support.mdttac.com/hc/en-us/.
We are likely not going to offer the ground/sea route in the future. The issue is there is no tracking number, and it seems like most shipments to NZ take 3 - 4 months, and we cannot provide any updates. Since we are a very customer-oriented business, we feel this doesn't serve our customers. However, if the shipping cost is a concern we do have dealers in NZ that should be able to order on your behalf!
I’ve still got my ESS - SA Tikka chassis if anyone is interested.
