    Mdt Xrs chassis

    Hey Team,

Thinking of ordering one of these to put on my 6.5 creedmore tikka. Will be used as both a hunting and gong bashing gun. Want a bit more weight to make spotting shots easier but not make it crazy heavy to lug around the hills.

Anyone got one that would say its a good or bad option for this?
Or any alternatives I should consider?

    Thanks in advance.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I've come across this one, and reviews seem good. I do not know which is better.

Talk to Stu Tylee at Target Dynamics. He’ll point you in the right direction with these as the primary importer in NZ, I’d consider him a subject matter expert with a good amount of long rang range shooting experience. I have used MDT in the past and they are a sound brand, this is no exception. Only other MDT platform I’d recommend looking at is the ESS.

For spotting shots, id just suggest a good directional muzzle brake but that doesnt suit every situation/ person

@Gerardo Yeah that does look like another good option as well, haven't had a chance to play with either so may just have to take a punt on one. Leaning towards the xrs atm...

Not a fan of muzzle breaks, I know they are super effective but do a lot of my target shooting in and around my hunting area so like to keep the noise to a minimum and use suppressors

The mdt was more or less a copy of this.

These are are a good sweet spot weighing between the factory tikka stock (800ish gram) and the mdt(1700ish gram) Mines about 1.3 kg

I found factory tikka stocks encourage muzzle jump/rise. Good stock design will limit it.

There are lots of options and it’s not all about adding weight.

I have an MDT LSS-XL Gen II chassis kit I am selling, all brand new parts imported from MDT in Canada. Listing it in the classified section once pics are uploaded. Great kit but have decided to just keep it simple with a nice and handy single shot 308. PM me for details if you're interested...

3.9 lb will end up making the rifle fairly heavy for hunting. I would look at something like the xlr element to bridge the gap, or a ken Henderson target style carbon number. The target style straight/high comb encourages way less muzzle jump.

Are you shooting off a bipod? Even a technique/hold change might do the trick. A 8 lb rifle shouldnt bto much of a handful in 6.5 creed

Yep shooting off a bipod most of the time and sorry should have clarified, this is more of my cheaper to run plinking/farm gun than my main hunting rifle (have others for this), agree a chassis would be a tad heavy for an all around hunting rig but hoping it makes it a tad easier to spot my own shots on steel within 600m, past that its never really an issue....
