In what way is a Mini 30 better than an SKS?
Much better platform for using optics.
Stock open sights are much better too.
Accuracy, fit and finish, ergonomics.
American Vs Soviet.
Less weight, in that it lightens your wallet by an additional $1k.

You can use the more common 308 projectiles. AR beats all though.
I have a stainless Mini-30 on E Cat available if you are interested. Can easily be deregistered to A Cat if required.
Fit and finish is a lot better on the mini 30, reliability seems better also. My dad shoots for a living, a lot of it from a chopper, and his tool of choice is the mini 30, he just likes the x39 cartridge in general for the type of shooting he does but couldn't get the reliability out of a SKS that he does from the M30
Scope mountings a breeze on the mini, got it coz I was sick of rip off sks mounts from china. Ease of take downs about the same. SKS is made for midgets wearing winter woollies and has a shocking LOP.Both have odd feeling triggers. The mini will shoot better if you use the right ammo, mine likes PPU but everything else is all over the place. I'd get an SKS first for cheap fun shooting and playing improvements. If your wanting something for a bit more precision go for the mini or get a bolt gun in that calibre. If i had to choose I'd go for the mini, I use that way more than the SKS now.
Has anyone had anything to do with the new Saiga's?
Initally they produced the mini 30 with a .308 bore. I thought this was all of them but the great google in the sky says that they changed back to .310 bore.

Mini 30 changes pills of communist oppression into freedom seeds:thumbsup:
I have one of both, the SKS stays in the cupboad!!! One thing the Ruger fails on is firing reliability on ex military ammo or the cheaper non U.S made stuff. The primers on the military ammo are harder than the U.S sporting ammo and the Ruger firing pin is tiny compared to the AK47 and SKS firing pins.
i had a ruski sks and a mini 30 at the same time, the sks was far more accurate, the 30 was spray and pray
Of course the most practical option is a 7.62x39 upper on an AR.
Took a bit of polishing around the firing pin hole to smooth out the tiny ridge around the hole, I understand most of the 30's have this issue. I used to have about 1 fail every 10 shots, now its about 1 in 50. I use Norinco , something Chinese out of a tin, and Chez tracer. About 2-3in groups from the two types and the tracer about 6-8in.Mine had the little surprise of going auto fire, quite exciting stuff when you were not expecting it. Unfortunately I fixed that just wasn't good for the nerves or the meat.
