Modify Remington 700 talley rings to fit Model Seven

Has anyone seen/heard of this being done? Chop a 700 rear ring shorter and bang new holes through it on the correct spacing. The front action bridge is identical, just the rear bridge is shorter, correct?

It appears to be the only way to obtain a 34mm direct mount ring for the Model Seven. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

Rail + picatinny rings = somewhat heavier than Talleys so prefer to avoid if possible.

a certain 34mm tube scope with the features I want is lighter than most 30mm scopes with the same features, even if you include the extra weight of a rail + picatinny rings - but would be even better with direct mount rings.

Rear bridge is lower but also somewhat squared off?

I meant in comparison to 700 action bridges - front of Model 7 is identical to 700, visually

Best way will be to sit a set on and check I guess.
I think the biggest issue would be if there was a difference between the two other than just allignment. Could potentially dent your tube. Lapping could solve this to a degree

In theory it is doable. Anything is doable.
BUT how much to have it done properly i.e. perfectly aligned and spaced?
then again if that is the only option then it doesn't really matter. Must be done

this suggests that the rear profile is different so it may not viable like MSL suggested
Does yours have one rear base screw hole or two?

https://www.leupold.com/scope-mounts...mington-7-2-pc but use the dual dovetail bases to suit the ring set. That would be pretty light.

    What about these?
Wouldn't be very heavy as you don't have the one piece base. Not direct mount though.
pretty sure my 243 has a similar set from years ago maybe redfield? don't think they do those anymore.

tried to edit. They don't do a dual dovetail base for the m7.

I have fitted leupold 1 piece mount for remington 700 on remington 7 without any stress issues in the past. But I m willing to try that again this week to see if I was wrong and there was any gap on the rear bridge as suggested in that link.

Compensating with metal Shims should sort out any stress issues and should be douable for the talley rings in 34 mm as well ( as well as drilling a second hole in the rear base to accomodate the R.E.M. 7 rear hole spacing and chopping any excess off).
