Move to Carbon rifle stock (request your findings and opinions)

Hi guys,

I currently have a T3X in HS3 chassis and have seriously contemplating moving to a carbon stock setup to allow the rifle to be a bit more universal.

I'd like to hear the thoughts and findings from those who have moved to a carbon stock and how you've found the accuracy in general. Anyone do long range shooting with their carbon setup? I understand that weight of the whole system can increase accuracy and I do want to do some long range shooting this summer, but I still want the option of carrying this rifle.

Any findings and opinions would be appreciated.

I have converted to a carbon stock on my T3 7mm rem mag. Love it. Fair bit lighter than the standard synthetic and very stiff. Just looks great as well. Mine is exclusively used for hunting so have it braked with a T2 which calms the recoil right back. I've played this game before and having a rifle that is great to carry is a lot different than having one that is great at the range. I would suggest you figure out what you really want to do with it and build to suit. Compromises make it less enjoyable at the range and hunting.

Its great al round, good for shooting of bipod and day pack same poi compaired to factory stock, Stronger, lighter way better for pesky tree limb removal

Awesome, thanks guys, do your ones have any flash bedding or are the the V block type? I'm so keen to do it if I can maintain a similar accuracy. I'm thinking that either proper bedding or a V block system is imperative?

i find accuracy is better then my shooting ability with a standard stug bedding job.

Thanks 199p. Are the stug stocks the ones with an aluminium v block?

Hitec (Ken Henderson) stocks have an alloy bedding block for the Rem 700/Model 7/T3 models

No just normal bedding

Just contact STUG and leave it at that. Simple as and the weight difference is something to be seen.

STUG is also quite a knowledgeable friendly sort who many can attest to his workmanship. Both of my centrefires have his stocks and for good reason- they just save weight and bloody work.

I don't mean to be biased but it's really that simple!

Have a few Cf stocks, STUG, the original Senators and a US Browns Kevlar . Love them. All provide rigid, lightweight platform and very accurate. A couple have been bedded to get best accuracy, the others have shot 0.5 moa as supplied. For a hunting rifle u are going to drag around the hills I would go go CF every time. If u r smashing gongs I’d still go CF, but the light weight means u need to be able to tolerate some recoil. I also have a soft spot for a good piece of walnut so have some classics (7x64, 222 Vixen) that will always stay in the original wood stocks

Thanks chainsaw, the accuracy you've described is very encouraging. My rifle should hopefully be sweet with CF and it's light weight as it hardly qualifies as a recoiler being a 6.5CM :D I love the idea of an accurate multi purpose rifle. I'm drawn to the Hitech at the moment due to the V-block setup. My HS3 is V-block and it's pretty easy to setup and it makes sense.

Agreed, a lovely bit of quality wood is highly appealing!
