MTNGEAR or Harris Bipod - what would you do?

Been deliberating whether to get a bipod for two of my rifles after years of never using and getting by without. My son has convinced me a bipod is a must have as doing longer range shooting now so have done a lot of research and narrowed down to a Mtngear gear mountain bipod being the best bet. However was suggested that I should try a bipod on my rifles before spending the dollars. So thought yes good idea so borrowed a Harris 9-13 that fits on the sling mount and went to the range Sunday. I did not expect the result I got which was both my 30-06 and 300wm shot sub moa off bipod with no point of impact shift from what I normally shoot off sand bags but tighter groups - that’s appealing. So my question… should I just get a Harris cause I know it works despite being heavier to lug up kawekas? Or stay with plan and get Mtngear bipod for lightness? Will the Mtngear change my poa when mounted? Nothing like going down a few rabbit holes… advice appreciated, thanks.

MTN gear for sure. Super light, store in pocket or pouch and attach quickly only when needed.

The harris will work perfectly fine but it is heavier. Up to you to decide whether you want to spend the money really. The biggest advantage you are getting is weight saving. Some other aspects such as quick detach/attach are handy too on the MTN or other options but there is no rush since you already have the harris so maybe hunt with it for a bit and decide after that?

If your going to be lugging it around then the MTN or Spartan types are the way to go assuming you also have the budget, they are not cheap but I went MTN for the weight savings.

The rifles shoot really well off the Harris :thumbsup:
Advantages of Mtn gear or Spartan as others mentioned is weight savings & quick attach/dettach. If you’re doing a lot of bush bashing then you’ll find the Harris has habit of getting hung up or snagged on the shite. Gets annoying. The ability to remove & carry bipod in pocket or pack is big help. I find the light CF bipods do require more discipline from the shooter to control precise shot placement

Thanks all, helpful responses. As much as I want to get a Mtngear, I am really stoked with how the rifles shot off the Harris and concerned may not be able to replicate with lighter bipod. Given hunting with these rifles, mainly the 300, is limited to ridge shooting I think I’ll try using the Harris in the field first (given I don’t have to buy it) and see how it goes in terms of fitting in daypack and attaching to rifle etc in field.

Just out of interest is there much risk to mounting a picatinny rail to carbon stocks or pretty straight forward?

Most should be sweet mine has being mounted for years with no issues the peak 44 do advertise not to mount a pic rail though
