Had to phone around a bit for the brass, but managed to get a couple of boxs of Nosler 28N and a bag of Norma 26N (which was a fair bit cheaper and easy to run over the expander mandrel).

Got Redding FL S Type bushing die set from from Brownells in the US.

No idea how much the wyatt extended box was, Dean supplied it as part of the job. They are listed on wyatts site as US$32, so probably close to $100 NZ here. The Stiller Predator action is already inletted for the wyatts box.

No point going to the trouble of doing this build and only running 160 gr bullets eh, might as well make the most of case capacity and push something with a real good bc. Was a tough call deciding to throat for the 195 as opposed to the 180 eldm tho, but from all ive read the 195 bergers seem to be a match made in heaven with the 28 Nosler, heaps of US guys all say they shoot lights out, whereas the 180 eldm's seem to be a bit hit and miss with many reporting they cannot get them to shoot.

One US based smith has built close on 100 custom 28 Noslers all running the 195's, and he swears by them, so hopefully all will be good, i'll find out soon enough.

Are you neck turning the 28N brass...I think Maiseys neck is 0.319 so you'll need to turn the 28N brass

You could have always had it throated to 180 ELD M .....by the time the load development is done it will be throated to 195 anyway :-)

I'm watching the throat erosion in mine and it is quite significant compared to 7mm Rem mag capacity cartridges

Yes its a .319 neck in the chamber, yes will be turning the 28N brass. I am also giving the expanded 26N a quick lick too, just to remove the thicker part at the base of neck after expanding them.

Yes i believe that they do have considerably more throat errosion than the likes of the 7RM, i have taken that into account with my throating, and COAL etc and allowed for throat errosion so 1. my bullets will still be in the neck enough, and 2. my rounds will still fit the extended mag box when chasing the erroding lands. Oh the joys of over bore cartridges eh, but im sure it'll be a whole bunch of fun.

What bullets are you running, powder etc and velocity. PM if you like.

I'm scared to look at the throat of my 7mmFX (7mm-338 Lapua Improved)... I'll just keep shooting it until accuracy falls off then work something out from there!

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Sounds like a bit of a drama in regards to reloading and barrel life etc but a nice flat shooting caliber all the same! Looks good

It doesnt have to be a drama with reloading, if you use the standard saami spec reamer with the larger neck dia. I know people who have used that reamer and just expand 26N brass, load and shoot, there thats much clearance then that it doesnt matter too much about the thicker bit at the shoulder junction. The brass will probably be toast anyway before the donuts cause them a drama ;-)

Fair enough mate. How many bomb's before barrel is cooked do you think? And how many reloads out of a piece of brass?

Obviously depends on how hard you push it, but one bloke ive talked too is still getting really good accuracy with 1000 rounds on his, Id be happy to get to that. Im planning on running it a bit back from max to hopefully get a better life. Im picking if you pushed it real hard, 500 rounds could toast it.

Ive heard reports of 5 firings, primer pockets losen up. Once again depends on how hard ya lean on it.

You dont build something like this for the economics of it eh, that would be like buying a twin turbo charged V10 Audi RS6 then moaning about the fuel consumption ;-)

basically its anywhere from 500 - 1500 rounds you could cook it in 30 rounds if you were superkeen
