    MYSTERY Milsurp part.

Morning all, been a while since I've done one of these but this one has me flummoxed and the knowledge pool on this site is incredible. It's a weird blackened brass thing that looks like a protective cover of some sort. No clues. Anyone got any ideas?

Flux capacitor for a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.
Managed to get two completely different movie tropes in that one.

Its weird enough that it could be a movie thing except for the intricacy of manufacture. This thing would have been a bugger to make so I think it's some type of old timey accessory.

Is it too far out to say it's just a clip on muzzle protector. Parade ground type thing to keep rain from the bore. The curved piece of spring steel keeps it firmly attached.
I'd like to verify your clam.

If it helps it did come in a bag of various sights and sight protectors. However It is like nothing else in the bag. Other items included MLE, Martini 03 Springfield, g98 sight covers as well as a few no4 sight protectors and a couple commercial American sights.
