    New hunting S&B scope

    Hi guys ,

Just seen the pics of a new hunting scope by S&B , the Polar T96 line , 1st model is a 2.5-10x50mm , 34mm tube , illuminated reticle , SFP or FFP , exposed or capped turrets , with a total of 38.0mil/131 moa of elevation , and the most light transmission of any hunting scope , at 96% .

    Other models will come out later , 3-12 & 4-16x ? .

S&B, yeah sure some of the best, worth buying? Well Ive looked through a few S&Bs and NFs at 1000yds at the target range and then the Sightrons and frankly at twice the cost of I cant see any benefit apart from a macho image thing. Maybe at 2000 yds and maxed out power or something, but not at any sane shooting distance for a civilian.

You noticed no difference in clarity bettween a NF and S&B?
Sorry that seems awfully hard to believe.
    What models are you talking?

34mm tube with a 50mm objective called a hunting scope?
Better off called the T96 Oxymoron.

I think he's saying he saw no difference between the SIGHTRON and NF/S&B.

No Im saying what is good enough to get high scores and win. I can happily spend $1600~2000NZ on a Sightron and like one of my club members find these good enough to get on the Kiwi team representing NZ, V spending $3.5k+. As an example I am shooting the next model down from the guy above with a club rifle with a second hand barrel and I am still competitive, ie we trade places on the range.

If I was a rich dude and money no problem I might indeed spend $3.5k it might get me an odd point or an X, maybe.

Now if I was trying to shoot 1500+yds at max magnification with a 338lapua or to 2000yds with a Barrett huge twat of a gun, to kill a poor starving 3rd worlder with 40 year old AK47, who cant even see me, yes OK.

Second point, I think a lot of it is the macho defense of "Ive spend an arm and a leg on expensive" (whatever) so have to justify it no matter the logic/value. If you need it, fair enough, if you dont then spend the difference on ammo and having fun.

Maybe its just me but Ive got to the age that buying 'brands" so I can look and feel cool without good cause just doesnt do it for me.

No I am saying I saw no appreciable difference in them that resulted in better scores. Simply, at 1000yds Sightron as a make isnt being stretched passed past its capability that make the NF or S&B are have to haves to win. 3 years ago I was using a well used $600 Nikki Sterling, I was still in the running. In fact I think I picked up some trophies for best long range aggregate over the season.

Now if I was doing 1500yds+ at max magnification to save my or someone's life, then yes I'd spend it on a S&B or similar.

It's probably a pretty fair comment when talking ftr like shooting.
I loved my sightrons, both had excellent glass and were great for ftr, however I personally find in all round applications my S&B trumps it.
Hands down far superior. Better glass at all times of the day, much more precise and repeatability when dialing.

Sightron for the price are fantastic but found I didn't regret selling them, however when I sold the S&B I just had to have it back.

I personally don't see it as a wanky brand thing either (that argument goes both ways, some just love to hate on the popular brands that have a reputation of being the great) I'm just finding more and more these days that I only want to spend money once

I think its diminishing returns with high end optics. The difference between a $600 Nikon and a $1500 Sightron is probably day and night.
The difference between a $1500 Sightron and a $3500 Nightforce or S&B is probably slightly more subtle.

Where your difference will be mainly noticed is when the light diminishes at the end of the day and that the S&b/ Swarovskis allow you to see and shoot an extra 5 to 10 min as the light fades out compared to cheaper brands.

When shooting f class or f tr in the day time a sightrron will do the job just fine.
