New MSSA rules in regards to airguns?

Okay, I've read all I can find about the new MSSA rules with regards to centre fire, rim fire, air rifle and air pistol. The detail all seams to relate to centre/rim fire rifles. But there is a brief mention about ''restricted air rifles'' - but no real details?

I've got a softair rifle that I purchased for my daughter to use (under direct supervision). It's an M4 (M16) replica with a 30 shot mag and is gas powered, semiautomatic. It has an adjustable M4 stock, free standing pistol grip and has a fake flash suppressor.

Do I now need to get this put on my E-cat? Please say no as that would be crazy if it is the case?

No - "restricted air guns" need an import permit and a special reason to inmport. That's all.

As I understand it unless you were wanting to import one it would not have to go on your E, but you would need an import permit from the police. No mention of anything special once you have / own it though

Yep you're all onto it, that's how the air soft players understand the law as well.

As a side note, dealers can still import and sell the guns, within the boundaries of the arms act, so the law is actually totally pointless. Oh well, I might buy a full auto airsoft gun for shits and giggles.

I wonder how many dealers opposed this ammendment;)

Thanks Pete, I'd read those ACTs but have to admit that I didn't really understand them. I got a bit confused by the new class of restricted airweapon not being able to be imported anymore, but still being able to be used. Its all a bit of a mess really IMO.

Yep!

Messy and probably going to get messier now that the Police can make the rules.
