New rifle thread - narrowed down

Thanks to those who commented on the previous thread, I wanted to start something slightly different with more specific things I'm after.

    1) I am set on 7x57/275 Rigby. It's the one calibre I've wanted since I was a wee tacker, I'm very aware there are similar calibres that are ballistically similar and easy to find.

    2) has to be a wooden bolt repeater

    3) has to come with open sights, more specifically I really want to eventually put a leaf sight on it. Not sure if that's something all rifles can have put on or whether they're different.

    4) I don't have the money to go out and buy an m98 or Rigby and co. so it's got to be reasonable enough that my wife doesn't leave me.

I know ruger and Winchester do them but not a fan, read enough to steer me off voere, still undecided on roessler and that's about where I am at.

    Any other suggestions for makes?

    Cheers

I like the Merkel range but they don't do a 7x57, they do a 7x64 though

There is currently a 7x57 mauser for sale on TM, it has the 1960's style stock similar to BSA's and parker hales of that period. Could be an option and you could always put a more traditional shaped stock on it further down the track?

My old junker parker hale safari with the fecked barrel is a 7x57.
maybe one of those floating around?
if you could find one like mine with a similarly buggered barrel for cheap it would be worth rebarreling

Go Brno they tick all the boxes for you and they won't break the bank.

Must it be new or is second hand OK ??

I'd give Graham Champion a call at Colonial Ammo Company Ltd, 06 278 4731 evenings, he's a good guy and has a lot of rifles in the "genre" you are seeking, if he doesn't have a 7x57 he might have one coming (he imports a lot of rifles).

    Cheers

Remember he is in Aussie guys....

Yeah, I love my ZKK600, hard to find that quality for decent money these days, the Brno ZG47 is also a thing of beauty.

If you want new CZ do the 550 in 7x57, even with a full stick if you are wanting something beautiful.

Zastava do one I'm pretty sure. Not the prettiest or smoothest out of the box but mauser action usually with set trigger. Should fit the budget pretty well, they are a fairly economical rifle

Living in Aussietralia? Wont hold that against you-I was ten years there myself lol
From memory there were heaps of Brno's etc in OZ. Very popular but depends if the 7x57 was a popular as well.

    There's that BSA 30 06 https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....30-06-a-41562/
You could do what I did and get one of these and rebarrel it in 7X57.
Could be a nice way to go. They have a good action that's made the old way and also an adjustable trigger.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along

A fair while back now but my mate wanted a specific Mauser action rifle in 9.3x62, and he contacted Ray Carvell at Carvell's Gun Auctions. Carvells Gun Auctions.

After a bit of back and forth exactly what he wanted was located, inspected, negotiated and purchased.

This could be worth a try as they are still going with their bi-annual auctions.

In Aussie you should be able to get a new CZ. The best "Mauser 98" clone made, has the proper Mauser extractor (as opposed to the shit copies on BSA's Winny Pre 70's, Rugers, Kimbers etc), my 7x64 shoots way under MOA from the box and is an all steel/all wood rifle.
