    New Tikka mount hole stripped

    Hi all.
Apparently new Tikkas have 6/40 holes for rings/mounts.
4th screw i put in on mine stripped v easily-no its not cross threaded.

Is this a thing that happens sometimes?

    Whats the options to fix?
    Helicoil? Prolly too small.

Re drill bigger and tap threads?

What size is the usual go to ?

Its more likely that the original was 6x48. Usually replaced with 8x40's. Mitch Maxberry (Lower Hutt) would probly do it for you.

Four 6x48 screws "works" most of the time but is really the minimum to hold a scope on, 8x40's are a much better bet anyway.

You could always use the rail, its a much better solution, just that Yanks don't seem to understand it . . . .

Theres a product call JB Weld, a 2 pot mix in black. It says its the strongest glues in the world, I reckon they are right. I snapped off my Fish Finder Transder on my boat. I mase a repair with This product and wow it does what it says. So a small blob stuck in the hole and then screwed in will hold and easy to clean up, cheap as well. Jaycar, Repco all sell it.

Mitch, if he is busy, give me a shout, I have a range of imperial taps in those sizes, and some spare screws.

Just had a quick look : 6-48 UNEF, 6-40 UNF, and 8-3 UNF, so should be able to get you going.

I believe Mitch was planning on leaving NZ. Maybe he has now gone.
