Night Vision Trap for young players

Had a call from a guy up north of Auckland. Was coming into port in his boat with his $7k pair of NV goggles around his neck and a large wooly balaclava on....... Yep you geussed it pulled the balaclava off and his Goggles came with it and shot over the side of the boat into about 60ft of water. If you happen to dredge up a set of PVS-7 goggles around Whangarei can you give me a call and I`ll get them back to him.

On the up side when he bought them I instructed him to take them into his insurance company and itemise them, he did and the insurers have sorted him out ....... He has a new set coming. I can imagine how that went... I had this $7k set of nv goggles and I dropped them off my boat.... YEAH RIGHT!!! :pacman:

If that guy could afford a $7k NV, he probably would have had a switched on gps on board, would not be very difficult to dive and search the exact area, if there is not to much current of course. Though I doubt they would have survived the 20 m deep water pressure .

Doubtful you leave things like GPS units and depth sounders off when you are running on NV goggles. I have a leather sheet that flaps down over my instrument panel to black out the cabin, something like a cellphone is to bright inside the cabin.
I gather he was in a runabout.

You have insurance who cares if you can dive to get them.

Just did my 3rd claim for hearing aids in the last 12 months.
Insurance company didn't seem worried.

You'd be surprised. They're probably divable (i.e made to run underwater)

Sort of, The PVS-7 is manufactured as waterproof to 1 meter for 24 hours from memory about the same as the PVS-14. The MUM-14 on the other hand is waterproof to 66 feet for sustained underwater use. Sold one a couple of years back to a guy who wanted it for night diving............. Bugger that!!

How do you fit them over your mask???

Usually you have a flip up/down setup that attaches to the mask. Because the rear ocular usually has a relatively long eye relief, you don't need your eye right up against it.
