Nightmare trying to importing rifle scope

I ordered a rifle scope from the US shop Natchez in July.
I have ordered scopes from them before without issue, and usually took 1 to 2 weeks to arrive.

    But this time .....
4 weeks later it did not arrive, so I emailed Natchez, they said their tracking shows the scope is being held at Customs in Auckland.
I rang Customs in Auckland, got told I need to wait for a collection letter to arrive from NZ Post, which I can then take to Customs and collect the scope.
2 weeks later no letter arrived from NZ Post, I rang NZ post and got told I must get approval from Customs first, before NZ Post can post the scope.
So I rang Customs again, this time got told I must get an approval from the Arms Officer.
The local Arms Officer said I should have applied for an import permit first before trying to import the scope.

To make thing worse, I've recently changed address, so need to update my address on my firearms license before filling out the import permit.
I updated my address online, got an automatic email notification saying that the local Arms Office will be arranging for a home visit.
4 weeks later and haven't heard anything.

I'm starting to wonder if my scope will ever turn up

Perhaps an empty platitude will help some?

Have you tried to apply for your import permit since changing address? The security inspection is a different process, and shouldn't need completed before you can get your import permit. Your address should have updated in the system straight away.

I hope they don't send you a letter that says they have a policy to not issue retrospective permits for items already detained at customs. Because if that's the case, you can almost certainly kiss it good bye.

I have the Forester 1-5x24SFP mounted on my 10/22 which is a great wee scope.

Just bought in a Forester 2-10x40SFP but I'm waiting for some dovetail rings to arrive as its going on my CZ 17 HMR but I'm liking the glass and dot with cross hair.

I also have a Marksman 4.5-18x50 on the .222 and that's going well so no complaints there!

For all three scopes the cross hairs can be illuminated but not fuzzy illuminated like other cheap optics I've had but for value... I like them a lot and I am impressed by the clarity and quality of the glass for what your paying!

Should've just told them they had already been out to inspect your new address, they are so useless they'd probably just take your word for it.

I notified them when I moved of both myself and my wife, AO rang me to arrange a time for my inspection, I said what about my wife and he had no clue.
So he turned up to check it out and was happy, I asked if he had the paper work for my wifes inspection, he didn't but made a note.

A few weeks later I got a call from the AO asking to come inspect my wifes safe, told him he had already been when he did mine.........
