The "Not what to do Suppressor' confession

Ok so this is my suppressor cockup confession.

Being the thrifty person I am I requested that my gunsmith fit my 7mm Gunworks Maximus suppressor left over from my 284 Shehane on my new 300 WSM long range varmint project rifle. For those who haven't handled a Maximus suppressor they are a very robust, chunky, beer can like suppressor but very quiet & never any hassle on my 284 Shehane. It seemed like a waste to shelve it so I instructed my Gunsmith to turn up a Derlin glue in bush to make up the barrel contour difference.

Excited on receiving rifle parts, I assembled everything & headed out to the range to roughly sight in & zero the scope. Did the look down the barrel thing & adjust the scope which always gets me on piece of A4 at 100yds. Half a dozen rounds later & no clue where the rounds were going I stapelled up a huge piece of card board. With the suppressor screwed on the Point of impact was some 19moa to the right. So I adjusted the windage left for correction & prompty ran out of adjustment. At that stage I figured something was seriously wrong so packed up & headed home.

Pulling off the scope, bases & rings, everything was doubled checked & torqued in place. Nothing was found to be wrong so headed out to the range again. Large piece of cardboard in place again shot the rifle with suppressor on - 19moa to the right again. So for an experiment I indexed the suppressor undone 180' & shot again - 190moa to the left, indexed again another 19' undone again & shot again - 19moa up! So something with the suppressor was seriously out.

I promptly rang my gunsmith who assured me the threading, crowning etc were perfect & that the problem must be something out of alignment in the suppressor. I then rang Gunworks & explained my predicament. After a lengthy discussion they concluded that the problem probably lay in lack of clearance with now putting a 30 cal projectile through what was a 284 cal suppressor. After measuring the clearance I quickly dismissed that as a possibility as I still had over 1mm clearance per side....but sent down my suppressor & barrelled action for inspection.

What followed next was quite simply humbling & far beyond what I would call reasonable. Even though Gunworks finding nothing wrong offered to supply & fit a new Suppressor for a lowly sum of $115.00.
Considering the suppressor had fired 1,000 + rounds, the suppressor was meant for 284cal not 30cal, The suppressor had been modified with a glue in bush....... I think Gunwork's deserve a big Thank you for going far beyond their responsibilities. I can't recommend their attitude highly enough & will happily put all my future suppressor purchases with their company.

Oh & how does the new suppressor shoot - Less than 1moa windage on / off difference & bughole groups.

Certainly good service. I jut wish they would move premisses. Often have to go past them to get to a job and the flippin' truck just seems to slow down and veer off the road about that point. Might need to get the truck looked at. :oh noes:

sounds pretty good mate, wonder what the issue was?

I have had MAE replace my full overbarrel stainless suppressor for no extra charge and also bead blast my action and new suppressor for free while they were at it!
I know DPT has a lifetime warranty as well

Iv had a similarly awesome experiance from gunworks, they rebarreled my sako 75 with a trueflight ultramatch (was the only 6mm Barrel in stock) after shortening and suppressing made it go from a .3moa shooter to a a4 at 100m shooter

I thaught it was just bad luck on my part as it was not due to any poor workmanship, robbie said leave it here ill sort it.

came back to find a brand new ultramatch barrel with the suppressor fitted. FREE OF CHARGE

Yip, in my team we've had two GW's wear/blow out from lots of use....both times the suppressors were replaced no questions asked and free of charge.

i too have bought suppressors from gunworks and find after sales excellent. my .223 suppressor developed a bulge in it (and no, i was using standard loads). repaired free of charge. apparantly they had problems with the materials being supplied at the time.

Mind you they weren't much help when their suppressor changed the grouping of my 223 and I mentioned it to them.

did you or Robbie double check that being a 284 suppressor there might be an issue with shooting it through a 30 cal or did he just thread it and wind her on. seems a bit odd but atleast he stands by his product

Robbie didn't do the gunsmithing - Even a bigger testimony to their customer service

Based on my experience & several similar customer service reports like mine that would be highly unusual of them. They have always been a delight to deal with.

I rather deal with Amanda as well. I call her the bulldog coz you will never get away with anything. I have tried and failed lol
She does look after you very well and keeps you informed.
Don't know the new girl very well but she has asked some questions and made some comments that slightly annoyed me.
