    Options for rebarelling old P14

Ive got an old P14, the barrel looks pretty wrecked inside and confirmed this on the range today...

Is there any cheap option to rebarrel and get it shooting again? Its never going to be a 300yd hunting rifle but I'd like to know that my projectiles aren't flying sideways at 50yds haha. If theres nothing cheap and cheerfull to keep it as an "original sporter" it might have to go on the to do list and get restocked and built into something else one day when funds allow. Cheers

Lead boolits may shoot straight in a worn bore especially with a fast powder and with heavy boolits at slower muzzle velocity. @shooternz does those.

I'd try those before considering rebarreling or relining (if anyone does that).

I should mention I dont want to fluff around reloading and what not for this rifle, just want to be able to have a box of cheap and cheerful softppoints on standby and be able to bowl a deer over at 100yds if the need/opportunity arises

John Herbert, NZ Repeating Arms, sells Criterion P14 barrels, they match the original profile. When I bought one they were $480 ish.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Get it about avoiding reloads. Before you rebarrel, no harm or loss in trying a counterbore by an inch or two, best done by someone who knows what they're doing. May stop those tumblers.

yeah I am doing the same with mine-not key holing but spraying. Done a few things and have a handful of reloads to try but also have put a piece of rubber between the barrel and fore end to see how that goes.
    Not keyholing them though.
Apparently you can also do a barrel stub with another barrel on the original. probably better if you wanted a completely different cartridge and doubt it would be more cost effective than the criterion barrels. Bugger all of those P14 barrels about let alone good nick used ones.

I've got some galvanised pipe you could weld to the action that would probably shoot better

I see it's a BSA E model sporter, scope mounts are avaliable from weaver and the critirion barrel will make it a 1 moa or better shooter especially with a timney trigger

I made some wood blocks today and roughly inletted them to put the action in a vice and try screw the barrel off.... used the biggest pipe wrench I could find (not worried about marking the barrel cos its toast anyhow.. ) and swung all my weight on it and it wasnt coming off, tried putting about 1 meter pipe extension on the handle for more leverage, still no go , I did consider pushing down on the wrench with the front end loader on the tractor but called it a day at that stage
