Patternmaster, cure for cancer?

some of the bullshit i have been fed lately about these chokes has me wondering where sales staff are educated about their products.
just a couple of examples i have heard about how they work, over the last couple weeks.
"you don't need to change chokes for different shooting situations, they (patternmaster) automatically adjust themselves to suit what you are shooting"
i was just gobsmacked with that one.
"you don't need that ammo, if you get these chokes (patternmaster) then you can just use (insert name of noname shit 2 3/4 steel ammo) because it makes it work like that (pointing towards federal black cloud and remington hypersteel 3 and 3.5 inch) "

I bought my Mossberg 590 second-hand. I'd just handed over the cash when the guy remembered he still had the factory manual and sling. He scurried off to get them, and when he returned he also had two choke tubes in his sweaty little hand. So I'm looking at these tubes, then I'm looking at this barrel which clearly isn't threaded for anything. So I ask him "What are those for?" He proudly proclaims "These are chokes, you put them into the gun to change the size of the pellets!" I assume he is talking about the shot pattern rather than the pellets themselves, but that doesn't answer the main question. "So where do they go?" He looks at me like I'm a little slow before pointing at the magazine tube cap and saying "You unscrew that and they go in there, that's how they change the pellets". I wait for a buhdumtish or similar but nothing comes. I take the manual, sling and magical choke tubes and hurry to the ute, hoping to never cross paths with this man again.

So yes greghud, choke tubes are in possession of dark powers we do not fully understand, and those salespeople do truly believe what they are telling you.

When I was in my teens and learning the ropes local hunter told me, ball nosed projectiles were best for spotlighting? Apparently they worked better than other bullets in the dark;):D

I went out with a fulla one time, on our walk down the track he was telling me all about his .303 an how he cranks it out at the range and shoots beer cans at 100m blah blah fair enough I thought.

We had a bot of an unsuccessfull jaunt around the scrub an on our way back out he excitedly pointed out a big buck wallaby sitting at about 15m just looking at us "this ones yours mate" i said, he goes "oh na dunno if Id get that from here":wtfsmilie:

So I shot the wallaby, then stuck my thumb into my action to close on an empty chamber an he goes "what did you do there?" I explained thats how I like to carry it cause its safe and keeps shit out an he goes "na mine doesnt do that" "umm yip pretty sure it does mate" "na na it doesnt" "pass it here" I say so he hands it over and I proceed to demonstrate much to his amazement. First and last time in the bush with that chap.
