    POI difference, suppressor on/off?

From what I've seen from friends rifles there seems to be more POI difference with Gunworks suppressors versus the Hardy ones for some reason. Is this something to do with how true to the centre line the threading is? If not what causes it?

It worries me a little as some of them I've seen have 4 inches plus difference and I'm looking at going to go for a GW one.

Weight, the more weight the more the change.
If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money

Its not that bad, so your thinking of taking it on and off for different types of hunting or shooting..... I'd just leave it on all the time. If you do plan to take it off and on, 10 minutes at the range will tell you with it off my zero is up 6 clicks and to the left 2 clicks or whatever, it should always be the same.

Does the POI change matter? Are you going to be carrying the rifle without the supressor on for close in hunting and screwing it on for longer work? If so, sight it in with the supressor on, check it without the supressor and go hunting. a couple inches difference out to 100m or so isn't going to be a miss on a red shoulder.

I would be more concerned about a consistant change in POI. If it is consistant, you could sight in for the supressor on, zero your scope turrets/dials and then adjust for supressor off if the different POI is a worry. Then go hunting. If you have time to put the supressor on, then you will also have time to click back to zero.

If you are going to be carrying the rifle all the time with the supressor on, then it really doesn't matter...
If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

I have a gunworks magnum suppressor on my 7mm mag, I do bit walks with it in my pack, POI shift is around 1.5 -2inches, still within the killing zone for closer range kills that you might chance upon. As others have mentioned, zero with the suppressor on, test with it off to see the difference then go and shoot stuff with it. First animal I shot after buying my suppressor was with the suppressor in my bag.....pig shot in the ear at 10m after a nasty climb up a face

I'll likely be carrying it in my pack and only bring it out when needed as already the rifle and scope weighs just over 10 pounds. As far as consistency goes can there be issues there? I'd hope at least that taking the suppressor on and off all the time they still shoot the same each time with the suppressor on?

My mate who shoots a suppressed 7mm08 is just about ready to pay for it after I gave him ringing ears again while we shot a couple last night.

The only issue I would worry about that long term..real long term.... the threads will loosen and "could" make some kind of difference.......

+1 what Claw said. I've had mine since just after Robbie started producing his suppressors commercially - it's been on and off my 308 hundreds of times - no sign of creep or looseness, still nips up in the same place each time, and change in POI has remained consistent over the years (using same loads) - go get your suppressor, zero at 100yd with it fitted, then carry it in your pikau for when you have that longer shot that gives you time to fit it. Inside 100yd shooting, the change in POI will still be "minute-of-deer".

I know with the 223 and the 22 there is all kinds of thing's that can make a difference, how much moister is in the air is the biggest thing though.

How many do several fouling shots after a full clean? This is a big one and can move it around shitloads, same goes for how many rounds before a full clean is needed.
I know that the Stevens needs at least four before even bothering with the targets. Not much over 200 rounds for the copper fouling to start.
Drops the first shot on cold barrel by 2" then is bang on while it's hot till around the 15 shot mark, then it starts walking them up.

    G'Day Fella's,

In my experience, the heavier the suppressor/Can, the more variation in POI between Suppressor/Can Off & On.
From what I've read and personal experience, it is all to do with barrel harmonics!

I also know a couple of 500M and 1000Yard BR shooters, that believe that some non suppressor/Can "Muzzle Weight", helps improve accuracy!

Also, apparently a suppressor can assist in improving accuracy of a particular rifle, by redirecting the propellant gas away from the base of the bullet.
Apparently, when a bullet leave the muzzle of an Un-Suppressed rifle, the propellant gas (which is traveling at 2 + times the speed of the bullet), can have an effect on the bullet.

Best Wishes to you lot for 2012!
