Iv got a brno with a bit of damage on the bolt cocking shroud from where someone has grabbed it with something like vicegrips to re-cock possibly when it was out of the rifle, It is the only let down on the metalwork of the rifle, and looks bloody unsightly.
will wet and dry sand paper in the 200 range be a good place to start to polish these away?
is the there a better way?

thats a brilliant idea with tapping flat the ridges,
while Im at it mauser, is it easy enough to bend the bolt back a bit for asthetics?
Is the indian stone set you mentioned the same as a wet/whet stone? if so then yea iv got a wet stone
Id start with 200 after tapping down high spots, if it looks too slow (deep guoges) go 100grit and work back up.
Wrap strips of wet and dry around a file or Dowl to get it to "cut" flat like using a stone.

Bend blot handle I take it not the actual bolt?
handell would take 3-4 seconds tro heat o red in one spot and bend with a decent torch, dont bother with one of those besine? heater/torches would take ages and the whole thing would have to heat up.
my kimbers bolt handle sweeps back and it looks damn fine because of it
I first ask why were there those marks in the first place why did they do it?:D
I think it would have been done after my friend had died and his firearms were in the care of one of his friends, he would have decocked the bolt when storing so not to loose spring tension and the friend would have helpfully recocked it so that the bolt could be used in the rifle - with vicegrips.Quote:

Im leaning towards dolling it up as best as possible without removing the blueing with the hammer then reblueing it on the parts that shine.
my last cold blueing job looked great but rusted like a demon so loosing the factory blue I think would be a mistake
