Purchasing binoculars internationally - harassed by bank?

So I have purchased a pair of binoculars from Eurooptic. I made the payment through my local bank without any trouble. I then receive a rather serious email from ANZ requiring invoices, 'final destination of intended use and the end user' + some more that my payment isn't involved with Iran, Syria, North Korea to name a few....

    Has anyone experienced this before?

Ask for their ID to be on the safe side.
After all, wasn't it an Aussie that started all this Shit that we are now going through!?

I went into my local ANZ Bank to make a wire transfer. I then receive a personalised email from ANZ which is directly sent to my internet banking inbox (not my email address, so it is emailed to a secure location logged into my internet banking)

I have also spoken with ANZ on the phone and they are aware of their requests on this specific issue.

They haven't denied the transaction/payment yet, I'm just going through the process. Thread is more if others have experienced this.

If it was me I wouldn’t reply to the email and if I was curious then i’d Make a phone call & speak to the bank directly!

They also have your phone number so they can also call you if it’s urgent!

My wife recently used my credit card for an overseas purchase where the bank called me immediately about the overseas purchase.

I tried to stop it as I couldn’t get hold of my wife to confirm this purchase & when I spoke to the bank they already said the payment went through.

So... I would expect your transaction/payment has already gone through so don’t justify to the bank what your buying or why you need it.

I have to say this is an extremely odd request from a bank if it is a legit e-mail!

As above, I have spoken to the bank over the phone. They are aware of their request but apparently it's a process that they have to go through.

The payment wasn't made via CC, I visited the bank itself to make a wire transfer. The funds have been taken out of my account.

ANZ are a bunch of lunatics, try business banking with them... or try using your cards or accessing your online banking from anywhere in South America with them... they block your access to accounts and money "for your safety" and then you let them know what's going on, they say everything is all good then the next day same bloody thing happens again
Also, interesting, and intertwined with your story, I was watching a Vice news article on YouTube a while ago and I had to laugh when I saw that an Islamic State fighter in part of the video was using a pair of Swaro ELs

Interesting, I make a lot of overseas purchases with an ANZ visa and have had no problems.
Purchases include 1000s of projectiles from the US.

Have had many, many problems and issues with NZ Customs and NZ Post.

^ Maybe the difference is that it wasn't via a visa. It was a bank wire transfer, no credit card involved. Not sure?

Yeah that would be my guess too, wire transfers tend to invoke a bit of extra scrutiny for whatever reason.
