    Rail or bases for a .22 scope?

    I've just bought a new Savage MkII .22. It is tapped for scope mounts so is there any benefit in using a rail over standard bases? I'm going to be putting a Nikko 3-9x40 Panamax on it. Also; any recommended scope rings? The selection is pretty vast. I don't want to spend a fortune but want a good reliable set of mounts. Thanks in advance for the help.
