Thread: Rangefinders with ballistic solutions

Hello guys, I'm contemplating a new rangefinder. Budget is $900. Heading the list right now is the Sig Kilo3X 6x22.

I want to optimize the ballistics function over rangefinder. . . . I don't shoot over 600M in any scenario so an RF that goes out to x000M isn't so usefull.

Options and thoughts on Options welcome.

I have had the Kilo1600 for several years now and it's fantastic, I don't know why they don't get rated higher. And are cheap(ish). Can't fault it. I can't see the weight for the 3K in the specs but when I bought the 1600 it was lighter than anything else I could find including Leica.

Sounds exactly what you want - you don't even need to look at the range, just note the MOA to hold over and you're sorted.

I have a profile for all my rifles and loads, gets most use shooting rabbits up to 100yd with 22 subs but use it for deer as well of course.
If I lost it I'd replace it with another SIG without even thinking about anything else.

I think sig are the pick of the bunch for functionality and price.
I personally use the 3000bdx rf bino paired to a 5700 elite kestrel.
It doesn't get any better than that

Why not go straight to a digital scope with rangefinder and ballistics?

I use the leupold 1400i, there are 24 odd preset profiles for bullet flight paths, select the one that's closest to your chosen load and the range finder spits out an moa adjustment in the hud when you range, it takes into account angles as well

I’m in the same boat and considering the Sig Sauer Kilo 3K BDX so I can get a calculated ballistic solution for my cartridge, and it’s at a reasonable price point with a lifetime warranty.

Yup, the 3 I have on my list are the Sig Kilo1000 $549, Leupold 1400i $599, then its a hop up to the Sig Kilo 3K at $899. Can't at this moment decide . . .

I've got the sig kilo canyon 1000 , found it much quicker and ranges further than the leupold 1400. Only downside with the sig is only splashproof , i got mine wet when i fell in a river LOL , was only a few seconds but enough to fog up the internals and buggered it. Sig replaced it with a new one no worries , i was rapt!! If finances were bit better i would have got the sig kilo 3k . My brother has one and very good and probably has a better waterproof rating too.

The Sig Kilo3K got the nod, its got the pin drop thingy that will be occasionally invaluable - if I can figure out how to use it.

I've had RF Lieca geovids for about 10 years, so have had superb optics but only non integrated ballistics from Strelok. I found out the limitations of this approach when culling, those shots on smaller animals like goats and wallabies were not certain enough when the range got into the 280-400M zones, you simply don't have time to manage two devices and your scope.

Hence the move to the Kilo3000. You're not really spotting for animals with it, they are already moving up the opposite face as fast as they can! I've got the Sig set up with profiles for both the 223 and 308. It's a bit clunky, the RF doesn't show which profile you are on, but that's set and forget as you head out. There is also about a seconds delay from ranging to the solution being produced, thats another 10M for an animal really smoking it!

I don't know when I'll get out on the hill to try it but will report further. I'd be very interested in other people's approach to this scenario.

Seriously, the modern day/night 'scopes rule this sort of culling situation. The 4k daytime optics are crystal clear. The onboard range finder and ballistics are all in one pointy/shooty thing. Get the animal in the picture and it will ping the range. Put the aiming dot on it. Deaded. And video at the same time through recoil activation.

Most are tube scopes now just like ordinary scopes. Good eye relief and very reliable. And while your mates are cooking dinner you can chuck a IR torch onto it and become a night raider.

The only downside is juggling batteries and charging them.

I’ve just got an Alpex 4K. Should have looked at one of these before I bought my thermal scope.
