Sako 75 270 rebarrel to a 308.
Has anyone done this, or have a mate who as? Any drastic issues? I never use the 270, want a 308 to cut down and suppress and would really, really like to not sell this rifle.
If i can rebarrel it then that would be just dandy.

cant see any reason it wont work......you sure wont struggle for mag length....long action isnt such an issue..should feed fine...you could always cut down n supress the .270........the Duleys were using one the last season as it worked with factory loads better than most.... sure as shit wouldnt want to fire it without suppressor.
You can rebarrel to whatever you would like apart from the mini/magnum calibers, then there is probably a way
If I was you I'd go 30 06 then have at it.

The idea is for it to be quieter rather than louder, itll be suppressed regardless but want something for hunting over the dog. Will be looking at a subsonic load for it also. I realise i could just buy a 308 but, i like this rifle.

Hey Mike. Its easy as, the only issue would be that you have a long action, but its not really an issue - you just have to remember to pull the bolt back all the way to ensute that you pick up the next round from the magazine(short stroking).
Ive rechambered my Sako 75 (243W) to Dasher, BR and BRA and the action length did'nt bother at all.

The 16 inch tube will slow the projectile for sure
Find a powder that is mostly consumed in that barrel length and gives the velocity you want, probably ADI 2209/2213sc
A 140g Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2600 ish FPS and suppressed will suit your purposes without costing you a lot of $$$$$$

Should be as easy as finding a 308 tikka t3 barrel and headspaceing it
Hardly a downside with the long action and could be easily set back and rechambered to 30-06 or 30-06ai later down the track

Keep the 270 and just buy a 308. It's only money right?

Why turn a longer action Sako into a shorter one?
If I ever rebarreled my Sako 270 into a different calibre, it would be to 6.5x55 Swe.
Mate spent alot of time sorting subs for his 308 and basically reckons they run out of puff way too early and don't kill that well. He did alot of contract stuff in areas people were not use to gunshots so really had to keep them quiet. He said if he had to do it again he would buy a 450 bushmaster, can keep you beautiful sako as is and get a cheap ruger and a basic scope for reasonable money.
Edit: also had a 300blk and was not that impressed either
Keep the 270 barrel for when you want to put it back on again.
