    Rem 700/7 223 twist rates

    Hi folks.

I've Googled up the twist rates for both of the mentioned as in the not so distant future I'd like to get a 223(my other 223s are tin cans by now) again as their so useful to have for a range of applications.

Anyway with that said for either a model 7 or a 700(non varmint, non tactical) what twist rate are they? As I can't seem to figure out for certain what rate they both are?

    Cheers

I should also add I'd like it to be able to stabilize the 69gr TMK as my round of choice. Or 60gr TMK as a fallback

I know the newer M7s are 9 twist. If barrel is left at the standard 20" they should stabilise the 69 tmk just fine. I think @Tahr runs them in his.

My M7 is 1:9 and it stabilises up to 70 grain. It shoots particularly well with 69 grn Targex.
Mine has quite a tight chamber and pops primers .5grn before book max. Gets the speed though.

    Greetings.
Most non tactical Remington 700 rifles will have a 1 in 12 twist. My VSSF bought in 2004 has and I thought long and hard about it before purchase and still wish it was faster. It wont stabilise the 69 grainTMK and have not tried it. The projectile does shoot well in my Tikka T3 with the 1 in 8 twist as do the 55 grain projectiles. I suggest that you make sure your new .223 has at least a 1 in 9 twist.
    Regards Grandpamac.

It must have been the later M7's that were 1:9. They are very cool .223's inspite of being in a 308 size action.

My Rem 700 VSSF is 1:12. All I need it to be to pop those wallabies.

Yeah I had a new model stainless 7 that was 1-9 twist. Worked well with 75gr Hornady BTHP projectiles. Good game killers too. Wish I still had it….

@Tahr what sort of cartridge length can you load to in your .223 M7?

    Thanks
