    Remington bolt shroud question

I want to replace the bolt shroud on my model 7 (same shroud as m700) but my rifle has one of those silly J Locks on it, can I just biff it and put an aftermarket one on?

I bought a lightwieght firing pin assembly from Gunworks for my model 7, it came with the new shroud and got rid of the J lock.

Thanks Stug, do you think it would work just changing the shroud or is the entire firing pin different?

Looking at the pic on trademe it might get rid of the j lock but the firing pin will stick out the back of the shroud a long way. The lightweight pin and shroud was $130, I see they want $80 for the shroud.

Thanks, I have to go see Robbie this week as i need to grab some talleys off them and pester him with some questions around 6.5-284 so I might take my bolt in and just get the whole kit if its only $50 more than just a shroud. I had read on some american forums that there has been a few issues where the J lock system has caused a hang fire due to the firing pin grabbing on the spring somehow so maybe its a good thing to just replace the lot.

The Model 7 is completely different to the Model 700.

You will need a new firing pin, cocking piece & shroud to replace the J lock situation.
