    Remington target master

Picked up a couple .22 the other day. One is a Remington target master. In the process of cleaning it up I felt what appeared to be a bulge in the barrel approx 10cm from the muzzle. When you look down the barrel there appears to be a machined groove in the barrel?. Was this ever done deliberately or has something else caused this?

I had one of those years ago for culling goats

It had that same mark in the same place in the barrel

It came off my back when I was swimming the mohaka

    haven't seen it for 38yrs

This one's not in first class condition but I don't think it's spent much time swimming in the Mohaka

It is easy to get is cut behind the bulge , recrowned and or threaded . Into fresh rifling is accuracy is not there.

I’ve got a single shot the same, my father bought new in the early 40s. You get blow back in your eyes when you fire it!

Really nice rifles for the money, and usually bloody accurate. The barrels are long so removing the section forward of the mark/bulge shouldn't make any noticeable difference to the accuracy. Definitely worth tidying up and using.

Definitely a bulge. Cut back and recrowned it will be fine.
