Thread: Remmington Muzzle loader

I saw this online (cruising youtube at silly hours....)

If they are going to the trouble of fitting a bolt, it uses a case with primer and powder and the only thing that appears to go down the muzzle is the bullet, would it not be easier to fit the bullet to the front of the case and have a bolt action?

Is there something I am not seeing here as to why they would think this is a good idea?

probably to keep it legit for the muzzle loading season.

200 grains of powder, better ignition system using a magnum primer, 2200fps, 300grain projectile! Says it all.
They tend to give you shit if you bring one to the BP club though

That makes sense. It sounded like they were trying to reinvent the wheel by starting again and reverse engineering a modern rifle. If I was going down that track, and wanted to muzzle load with modern tech, I would use a falling block capable of holding the primer, or the case thingy they have. Or a break open type arrangement. Potentially even better would be a case that is about 1mm narrower than the projectile. So the 'chamber' that the case goes in is narrower than the bore. That way the projectile has a shoulder to push against making it sit in exactly the same place each time it is pushed down the barrel.

The biggest problem with a bolt (or any reloading action) is the fact that the action is this long bit of steel that pushes the chamber forward adding weight and making the rifle longer (for the same barrel length).

Those often fire Pistol bullets in a plastic Sabot. People tend to load two pellets of compressed black powder substitute instead of loose black.

Interesting, it goes against the grain to stuff powder and ball down an already capped rifle "that's not what I was taught"
