    Removing epoxied on mounts

Has anyone done this and have any tips. I could use either a blow torch or heat gun to go above the 80 degrees required to break the epoxy but since the mounts are one piece alloy talleys the heat gun would be a safer option. Does anyone know of a solvent to get any residue off the receiver?
And more importantly will the heating and cooling screw with anything?

I wouldn't use a blow torch you'd risk distorting something

Use a hair dryer or similar. I epoxied some one piece Talleys on, when I undid the screws to take them off they just came off with a twist. Must have been enough oil on hte receiver for the epoxy not to bond.

I took a set of talleys off last year which I had used epoxy on. I simply tapped them with a tack hammer and the seal broke and took them off.

I'm more worried about the screws snapping if any of the epoxy got in there. I may have gone overboard with araldite clear but it was either that or Epcon C6.Think I'll set the heat gun on 2 and see how it goes.

Methylene chloride paint stripper will swell it and make it go crumbly, the other kind citrus based or something might work as well.

I might mix up some blobs and experiment on some ali and stainless offcuts

I'd give it a good blast with the heat gun before undoing the screws, then give rings a tap with a hammer if you can't remove them by hand.
Unless you heat them up something crazy (like over 200 degrees kinda thing), messing up the heat treatment shouldn't be an issue.

Finaly got round to it tonight. The screws came out easy as without heat then a quick blast on 3 and one popped off by itself. The other just needed a tap to pop off. The araldite came off with heat and thumb nail power.

This is what the gunsmith here reckons as well. Boiling a jug is easy and boiling water is one of the safest ways to do it. Dont need any special equipment like heat guns etc, everyone has a kettle....Make a cuppa while you are at it

I have a heat gun and a mini blow torch so it all went well. Used a pair of welding gloves to cover the stock in case of melting it. It was way easier than I thought
