    Rifle Builds

Who would have thought modifying/making rifles would have an element of fun to it.

I have a 7 saum away at the moment getting shortened to 19 inches, have done plenty at 16 and 20 inches but none in between, handy things those stubby little rifles.

Anyone have a favourite modification/build, are using their ultimate machine or planning a dream build ?

I brought a cheap Hogue Stocked M700 but its a bit like granddads axe, New 24 inch barrel in 6.5TCU , Carbon Stock, suppressor etc. Not so cheap now but I use it far far, far more than my 6.5SAUM. Its a hoot to shoot and cheap to run.
I may get the barrel shortened in the future but its a wee bit short on velocity as it is

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

........................but a 123gn Amax @ 2640fps out of a wee .223 case is already pushing it a wee bit

It's definitely fun, I get lots of enjoyment from playing around with different rifles.

As you know, I recently took an old scruffy model 7 in 7mm08 and had it lopped back to 15" and a Dpt muffler fitted.

It's total length is now about two inches shorter than it was originally with its 20" barrel.

It is balanced perfectly and feels just right as you handle and bring it up to the shoulder.

It's not the most expensive or tidest but there's just something about it. And it shoots.

    Top. Tikka M595 284win
    Bottom. Mod 7 7mm08 15"

If I build another rifle to will be a 458 win mag on a Mauser action with a walnut stock. I certainly don't need it, but would get a great deal of satisfaction putting a 500gr bullet through a stags shoulder.

    I love it.

Built a nice 264 WM on a Howa long action, Senator Stock, Shilen Select Match Barrel 26", bit of fluting. Most consistently accurate rifle I own.

Grabbed a Tikka 223 cheap for the wife, lopped it to 12" and had the LOP shortened for her with a Hardy can, she loves it and it shoots 1/2" with aussie outback ammo.

Just looking at something for the rabbits now... maybe a custom or a GRS stocked .22-250AI Tikka with an 8" twist barrel throated for the 75 Amax

Bought a bargain A7 270wsm to play merry hell with and to turn into a short barrel 7mmSAUM...

Liked the rifle as it was. Superbly accurate. Now getting pleasure out of fiddling with 270wsm loads and killing stuff with them.

I am keen on turning my Sako 75 270win into a 16" .284win super pig with a carbon stock.
