Just had a tally up of what I have spent on rifles and the value of what I have lying around the place, and was shocked at a value of $10,000. I would be gutted to be ripped off. Do you have insurance for your rifles? Is it covered under home and contents ect? I'm only flatting any company/policy I could use? What have you had ripped off in the past?
Yes i have and they took my prized 303!!!!
Incurance companys consider guns as sporting goods and devalue them down to nothing when you claim.
I have tried to get replacement insurance for my guns and no insurance companys do it that i could find!!!
Flatting is not an easy one either. Make sure you read the fineprint!!!
few years ago some clown stole my winchester 30 30 and rode around in a car shooting at other cars. opened up a can of worms for me. rifle was at my parents home. i did not get charged with anything as far as the rifle was concerned. got the gun back tho which made me happy! if you in insure your rifles, MAKE SURE you list it as a stand alone item, and give make, serial number, discription, and even take a couple of photos just to be sure. by doing this it makes it easy on you if anything gets stolen. take it from me.
Insurance companies are dodging everything now, I had a load of power tools flooded in raw sewerage and left wet for 10 days to evaluate for repair. I said in my opinion replace, one sewerage not good, 10 days wet not good, and I good not guarantee the repair, should be replace, their tech rep in Auck said no wash in disinfectant and quite repairable. I replied replace, they dropped me and sort a second opinion. They'll repair and when they clap out the owner will be told sorry that claim is closed.good advice sako much ino as poss and separate listings

Asked my Contents Insurance provider about this, and was told as contents, my guns are covered. Still made sure they have a letter with prices, make/model, s/n, and descriptions though - they made a bit of a fuss saying they didn't need it, but I insisted. Don't leave them any wriggle room if the worst happens.
Also taken multiple photo's of my guns AND my security, and emailed to myself, along with serial numbers, description of scopes etc etc. That way even if my camera/laptop get nicked as well, I've got all the info to give to the cops.
With my insurer (who is almost everyones insurer now) rifles are sporting goods and are depreciated as such. Market value less excess does not leave much behind.Quote:

My household contents insurance includes Rifles as "Sporting Goods" and provides a maximum cover of $1500/item less depriciation and excess unless they are specified on the policy which like james has said will leave you with SFA $$$ for replacement if they get Damaged, nicked, lost, broken, burnt or all of the above.
Like anything shop around for the best deal.

Wonder if you got professionally valued like some items Who could do this Sportshop owner ? Is there a valuer with enough knowledge to do so ? Then maybe there could be an agreed value I'd happily pay something for a valuation for insurance .
