Rolling block 45-70 question

Have just upgraded my 45/70 form a carbine
As I wanted something more suited to long range shooting
So I brought 2nd hand a Pedersoli rolling block with 30 inch barrel and a large amount of waight to keep recoil down

I love the rifle but I have noticed one small issue if you’re cartridge overall length is to long the hammer gets in the way of the rim of the case preventing the round from being able too go into the chamber the bullet has to be seated so deep really quite alot to deep imo

Now if i pull the hammer right back past full cock as I insert the round then gently let it back to full cock once the rim is past the hammer I can fit a much much longer round in
To the chamber as the hammer is lower and dose not get in the way
My question is will pulling the hammer back past full cock repeatedly damage the rifle?

No, it happens just about every time you thumb the trigger bach normally.

So how many grains of the black go forward stuff are behind that

60 of 2f swiss for now
Might go to 1.5 swiss

I am using a very large drop tube 1m tall
Alows the power to settle very tight takeing up as little case capacity as possible
Then I thumb my projectile down and it meets the powder at the bottom of the last greese grove
I then seat my bullet to the top of the last grease grove so not very much compression just enough to take out any air gaps swiss powder doesn’t like too much compression and the lightest crimp just to stop the bullet from falling out
I don’t size my bp brass so very little neck tension

Ive been using gowex 2f, and can get 70 gr in a case with a 405 gr bullet to the crimp groove. Like you I dont size my cases. I dont often shoot 70,usually load 55, but you can have some fun with a few on hand. Get someones girlfriend to shoot it, then give it to the boyfriend with a 70 "whatcha complaining about a girl can shoot it ok" never fails to get a laugh.

You would get 70 easy with a 405
My mate uses 65 1.5f with the same bullet im useing right now
515gn from his custom mould I have to seat slightly deeper in the rolling block which is why Down to 60
I’ll probably go for the lee 500gn it seems to be what most people are useing
But i thorght id grab a few of my mates to see if it shoots a bullet that heavy before I buy a mould
