    ruger american vs savage axis

hi all im in the process of selling my marlin x7 223 as I need something that has a detach mag as I only have one good hand and find the internal on the marlin hard

I will have a max budget of $700ish
in that price range there's really only 2 options

ruger American or savage axis both rifles are chambered in 223.. the rugers are new in 223 so they are not here yet but only a few days away (within a week) according to ruger distributor here in nz

the reviews on both rifles seem to be pretty equal
the only thing that separates the two seems to be the fact the ruger is 1:8 twist vs savage 1:9

so what one should I go with

Personally I'd go for something nicer second hand.

of the two choices listed I would look at the ruger. Have used a friends American in 308 and came away impressed and although I'm a savage fan, the axis doesn't really do it for me.

Though changing to detachable mag will cost a bit more. Second hand would be the way I'd go too.

I find the savage magazine a bit fiddly to load, don't know about the ruger

I have a friend who purchased one of the Rugers in 243 for his partner and he liked it so has ordered another in 22/250 for himself

We did too.. until we realised you can just press them straight down from the top, between the feed lips. So much easier..

We'd always just pressed the follower down and slid them in until then.

I have tikkas and love them however second hand they tend to be around 900 and I cant justify spending that on a 223 for practice
I have a strict budget as I want to get something without toping up the money from the marlin to much
    Will spend $750 MAX

Second hand Savage mod 10/14/16 pop up at that price from time to time. I'd take one over a T3 at the same price, even better when they're cheaper. Howas good for the money too if you don't mind the wobbly hogue stock.

I am hoping to pick up a ruger american predator in .223 this weekend if the scope I want comes in stock, looks like the business to me. Stock is definitely a bit flimsy though.
