Rusty barrel at my Remington 783

Hey folks,

last year in summer I bought a Remington 783 in caliber 30.06 Springfield. A carried this gun over the entire german hunting season and used it every day.
Especially on driven hunts, when I was hunting with my dog, I used this gun. Every day we went through very wet terrain and in the end of the season the barrel of the gun was coverd with red particulars.
I tried to clean it but it seems like they are very deep inside of the barrel.
I will take some pictures when I am back at home. Now I use my Cz 550 again, because I feel a little bit concerned about it and the stabillity of my gun barrel.

What do you thinks, are those red particulars rust ? Have you ever had the same problems with your remingtons?

Hi is it inside the barrel in the rifleing or on the outside
Outside is not so bad as unless it’s really bad it’s purely just Looks bad but doesn’t affect the functionality of the rifle
Inside is bad news pitting in the rifleing can reduce accuracy quite Significantly
Attachment 89371 get your self some of this stuff it’s made in Germany so shouldn’t be a problem to get its awesome stuff
Keep a small bottle in your hunting bag and if it’s been wet give your rifle a clean with it every day after hunting
Next morning wipe rifleing with a dry rag or bore snake to remove excess before shooting

Sounds like rust on the exterior from reading it a few times.
So it will be cosmetic. I think those rifles are parkeried rather than blued, Id try a light oil like the stuff above and leave it for a day or two to soften the rust before wiping it off. For what its worth, Dad was an engineer and was taught to rustproof phosphated (parkerised) steel parts by first heating them to 70-80 deg C then applying a coat of snow white petrolatum (vasaline) evidently as the metal cools it pulls the vasaline into the pores and seals the surface. Wipe off the excess when cold. Ive never done it but cant see why it wouldnt work.

can of crc or wd40 sitting in wagon is great for days like that...a quick spray down bore and leave muzzle down overnight and all good,quick whipe down of outside before you crack open a beerzie stops the outside stuff
I hunt one spot on sea coast and ALWAYS clean shotgun as soon as get home and pull it out of cabinet 4 days later to get the bits I miss...th dreaded red stuff soon finds where you didnt quite get.
