Thread: Safe Dehumidifier

Sure there was a thread on here somewhere regarding keeping ya bang sticks dry, but can't find it.

Just brought another two of these on special from Farmers for $24 each, bloody great value as these rechargeable dehumidifiers work really well, just need to give em a good long dry out charge before first use & heaps better then using nasty chemical damp rid type stuff

Damp rid isn't really a nasty chemical, but it is a calcium and sodium salt. They release a small amount of trapped moisture, combined with salt which is really good at stopping mould, not ao good for gun safes.
Your dehumidifier is just silica gel with a fan in it, but they work really well, i also used to buy my silica gel on special at farmers, even though it comes in a pretty pink bag. Then i bought a truckload of it from one of my wholesalers.
I tried to sell silica gel packs on the forum for $10/ kg but only sold a couple, now i sell it on Trademe for $15/100grams and it sells flat out, go figure

Pour it onto some steel and see how bad it is tho, Got to make an insurance clam on one that split and leaked through my safe

Insufficient air circulation perhaps?

Mine is near the laundry so near a lot of moisture. Since I got the dehumidifier shown all rust issues have gone away.

more likely insufficient heating and/or in a non-insulated room/shed

Do those safe heater elements actually work? I thought it kifht be worth getting one as they're not so expensive.

I've had a cabinet heater in my safe for 5 years and it's good

I've said this before but the Napier VP90 is really good the owner of Napier is a Kiwi so I guess he knows a thing our too about moisture can't believe how wet it was when I was home

Got a 17W rod shaped heater in mine and it's always been good
I know of others who run oven lights in theirs as it is just enough heat

Whilst running power in there I chucked a rope light through too and that is very good
