Depends if you need the extra horsepower

A 140g nosler ballistic tip from a sako 75 in 7mm08 loaded at around 2.890 to 2.923 due to its long throat and long magazine internals opens up some room in the case for more powder.

You end up with a velocity between 2920-2950 fps

Running the numbers you end up with approx 1000ftlbs of energy and 1700fps around 630yrds.

Apply the same tricks to a 150g nosler ballistic tip and you have a bit more "harvesting" capability

Saums are mean but I think you'll find the 7-08 and
WSM actions have different bolt diameters magazines etc

Scott Trail has built plenty for me

He can be found at ssrnz.co.nz

Top quality work at a reasonable price and Scott is always happy to discuss technical requirements over a phone call

I looked at SAUMing mine but the .540ish bolt face required on the .470ish standard bolt face just leaves no meat left in the bolt.

I suggest looking at the 284 case with its rebated case head or possibly another rebated case head case.
You will not get the maximum possible performance out of the 284 case due to the mag length but will still realize a decent gain.

Nope, id open up the bolt face, but only because i have a few saums and don't want any of my brass to be rifle specific.

Seen a lot of sako/tikkas in saum and rum now, they are still smokin deer.

You were one of many that advised against opening the boltface when I researched! what has changed?

I spoke to Dean Maisey and Grant at trueflite before
Doing mine and both advised to start with a WSM
As a base if it's a sako for the boltface to have some meat left in it and also the magazine setup will just work without any hassle

Motueka Gun Shop had / has a 75 WSM on the wall. That would be a good starting point.
