Sako Model 75 223
Gidday - I've been offered a wood/blued Sako 75 in 223, 1:12 barrel, excellent condition.
How do these compare with the prior model and the current 85's especially in terms of aesthetics and usability in the field.
Thoughts on a fair price??
Thanks

Hunter? Barvarian?
If in excellent condition I would have thought somewhere in the 1500-2000 bracket

Are you sure 1/12? Only asking as I was looking up the twist of the 270 wsm (1-10) and it specifies 1-8 for the .223 for the Sako 75, if it is jump on it.
-
Yeah - the twist rate is a puzzle, the owner told me 1:12 but he is an old buffer so might be a tad confused . . . might try and get it on trial and measure it.

.223 is one caliber that in my experience even the cheapest rifles seem to shoot well in. A Sako 75 would be nice but I bet it wouldn't outshoot a Savage (for instance) at half the price (which come in 1/9). So I wouldn't pay a big premium for a Sako over anything else.

One of the biggest mistakes of my life was selling my ss walnut 75 .223. Man I want that rifle back.

I paid $2450 for my one in 2004. So $1500 to $1800 would be about fair.

I have one sitting here in the safe which I’m looking after for a mate who’s overseas.
Nice rifle but she sure is heavy when compared to my sako L461 and A1 aswell as the T3 .223
Not sure how much your paying for the 75 but there are nicer and lighter rifles out there so good luck with whatever you decide
-
As per Seventenths comments, they are heavy. A mate has one he bought new, I was surprised by the weight of it but in thinking about it, there's a fair bit of real metal in a 75. His is a 1:12 too.
-
Yup took a look - 1:12 Nice enough but not for me. Better balanced (so weight isn't an issue, and anyhow its still a light rifle) and nicer in the hand to carry that the Vixens with the "square" forends.
-
Mine is a Stainless Laminate 1 in 8” twist.
I paid $1700 for the rifle and Optilocks in 2011.
They tend to keep their value.

Sadly they are going for over $2000 here in Australia.

Heavy, short magazine so not great for longer heavierbukkets. Rather have a Model 7 with an AICS kit for a shorter action .223 - or a Howa mini if you don't mind short OAL mags.
