Anyone have experience of the Sauer Ceratec rifles? Quality, performance, value etc?
Got a mate looking for his first rifle prob in 7mm08, maybe 243.
I see there is one on TM with the "Ceratec", Cerakote coming off about where the barrel might sit on a gun rack. No explanation given as to cause or why it is not a warranty claim.

Sent mine back to get ceracoted again as just farting would wear the original coating off
Redone under warranty? Given the marketing hype it's kinda surprising it comes off at all let alone that easy. Why bother?Quote:

Those Sauers were designed by Satan himself the action is terrible, sloppy as hell, the bolt stop can actually fall out of them and it’s possible for the bolt to completely rotate in the action and get stuck facing the wrong way I had one and it was accurate enough but after having the mentioned problems it went down the road very quickly. I know a forum member who had one given to him by a well known nz hunting magazine to review and I laughed at the edited bullshit article that actually made it to press as he shot it at our place to do the review and the bolt stuck the wrong way round happened to him during that process which I found highly amusing. I actually scratch my head at how they managed to let that rifle escape the r&d phase and make it to full production
My Mauser M18 has been faultless (same action). The only slight negative is that they have double ejectors which means that you need to use a strong hand to push the bolt shut when single feeding. But by joves they extract and eject wonderfully.
Very accurate and great trigger.
I have been talking to a stock maker (Senator) about a carbon stock for it. That would be the icing on the cake.
Here’s a picture of one that’s done the bolt flip mod… there’s quite a few experiences of this happening on the web. It’s a fundamental design flaw or blatant cost cutting when I hit up the store I bought the rifle from about it I don’t have the rifle with me so we took another new one off the rack and I showed them exactly what happened and that rifle did it too so it’s not a one off problem. I don’t know about the M18s but the Sauer also has a real backyard bedding system instead of pillars it has a pile of washers around the action screws, beware when taking down rifle for first time as I spent a considerable amount of time scratching around the garage floor for the washers that spilled out everywhere
I have only good things to say about my Mauser M18 too.
Howas do that too. Mates did it on last wallaby hunt. Used the truck draw bar edge to lever it back around.Quote:

At least a third of those sauers imported had their cerakoting peel off.
