Scope adjustment - advice needed

I don't know too much about scopes, have mostly used open sights, but just fitted a scope to my sons air rifle.

When sighting it in, I've adjusted it as many clicks left as it will go, but it' still shooting a little to the right. It will turn more, but it's harder to turn, and I don't want to force it and break something.
It's fine vertically, but is also on maximum adjustment (down).

It's not a junk scope, but not a super flash one either.

Is there any other adjustment that can be made other than shimming?

Any advice would be appreciated

Needs shimming. Cut some beer can and stick it inside the rings, a little trial and error needed.

My airrifle had same issues.

usually you need to shim the rear ring to raise the rear of the scope what kind of mounts are you using I cut a plastic strip out of a coke bottle and put it in the bottom half of the rear ring

Is it mounted onto dovetail or bases/rail ?

The bases/rail might be skew. Also try turning the rings around (each one 180 degrees) or swop back and front or combinations of this.

Not a good idea to force the do scope beyond the limit of travel.

You could also look at Burris Signature Zee rings with inserts, but to be honest it sounds like more of a base issue. Take it to a gunsmith to have a look, or let us know where in the country you are and one of the guys might be able to have a look for you.

Be a bit careful about shimming if you don't lap the rings, you can end up benign the tube...

I've got other rings I could try, but guess the first thing to try would be rotating the rail 180 degrees and see if that makes any difference (didn't think of that!).

I'll see how that goes before trying something more complicated.

Air rifle is an old Sharp Innova. The bit the rail mounts to is hard plastic, so maybe that' stone issue. I've rotated the rail 180 degrees, it has a grub screw at one end (vertically through the rail coming out the bottom) which will allow me to the adjust the vertical without shimming.

I had a windage problem with my g22 after trying 2 sets of shitty Chinese rings that did the same thing I bit the bullet and got some decent ones and problem went away

Turned the rail around and managed my son managed to sight it in no problem. Can still adjust up/down and L/R.
Must have put the rail on the wrong way around.

On a separate note, I've always wondered how much difference decent rings make. I've seen Chinese ones for a few bucks, and Leupold ones for a couple of hundred. Do they really make that much difference?
I've been thinking about getting a decent scope for my gun, and being skint (& a tight arse) have been struggling to justify $400 for a scope, but paying an extra $200 just for rings seems over the top.
I guess there's no point in fitting a $400 scope using $8 rings, but are there decent rings at reasonable prices?

It pays to get the best you can afford as when they let you down it will be at the worst possible moment I'd been planning for ages once about going on a hunt every thing was ready and finally the day came got to the place where we where going to camp got my rifle out and the scope fell off I'm a bit of a tight are when it comes to scopes there are a few decent ones that don't cost the earth that are Ok

I have three sets of weaver rings and they are great as far as I can tell. I use the quad lock I think they are called for rimfire and 223, no issues at all and they are about $30 a pair
