Scope advice please
Hi guys,
I am about to buy a new Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 308 which i plan to use for a bit of both hunting (deer) and targets but i am having a tough time deciding on what scope i should get? My budget is around the $450 mark and so far i have had my eye on the Redfield Battlezone 3-9x42mm for $405 - has anyone used this scope and got any comments? I am open to suggestions on other brands/models.
Basically im after something that can handle the bush but will also be pretty decent on the range.
Cheers.

I heard that the battlezone is a piece of shit. In your price range I would probably look at a millet TRS 1, Nikon buckmaster, Falcon menace etc but all the above are junk compared to say a Vortex PST or HST if you hangfire for a bit. The former will probably work but...ya know

You will never get a scope that's squared away in that price range. They will probably work fine, but will have a deficiency of some type.

Bushnell Elite 3x9 should come in about that price

Find a second hand Nikon Monarch or you may even pick up a VX2 for that money, the Nikon is better if you want to dial.

Vortex diamond back 4-12 x40 I think the best bang for buck at present. Should land for well under $350.00
Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40, Dead Hold BDC, Matte | Rifle Scopes | Discount Rifle Scopes, Binoculars and More - The Optic Zone
And the best warranty in the game.

yeah, was going to suggest import , but lifelust looks like a fairly new guy so.....
If you don't want to dial maybe the sort of thing your looking for is Natchez, Weaver Grandslam Ballistic X reticle 3x10x40
297USD.

Welcome to the forum Lifelust. Do your research thoroughly and purchase the best scope yo can for the budget you are working to (even if is a second hand scope that gets you into a better make/model)

Wow thanks for the quick replies! up until now i have mostly used 4-9 power entry level Weaver or Leupold scopes on the old mans guns so i guess i wouldn't really know the difference between a good scope and a bad one...
4-12 power would be a nice improvement and i would prefer to buy new than second hand if possible. It seems there are so many options!
Will definitely look into the Vortex thanks Sneeze - the reviews look good so far
