Scope cleaning
I have a Zeiss scope I want to look after (death threats from wife if I stuff it). I never cared much before using toilet paper, sleeve etc to clean scopes. What's the best to use? Lense brush, alcohol lense wipes, spray? I don't use lense caps at the mo, have in the past on different scopes. Use a neoprene cover but that only stops a certain amount of rubbish.
Cheers

I use a lens pen seems to work

I bought a Richard Wilhelm scope years ago. It came with instructions on how to clean and care for it.
I have done it ever since and works pretty well.
I use distilled warm water, lens brush, wet lens wipes and a chamois in that order.

This.
Got my 416 back after 12+ years. It had been stored in a gun room and even though they had open slather to take it out hunting, they never did.
As such it had quite a thick coating of dust on the objective lens. I definitely didn't want to wreck it.
there was one funny water type mark on it but using the instructions below it came up sweet.
Wilhelm Arms and Optics - Care for lenses in binoculars spotting scopes and riflescopes.

Ok i might just use the brush on the lens pen after reading that i did wonder about the pad getting dirty

Richard is like the "glass whisperer". He's anal about how to care for glass and with expensive (and not so expensive) scopes and bino's these days, there's good reason.
WORST thing is your sleeve, thermal top, or loo-paper. Dust has either got to be blown away, brushed away lightly, or washed away in water.
Once you got rid off the scratch-causing dust, then a lens cleaner and soft cloth cleans things up a treat. Out on the hill I wash the lens's in water, then use a small piece of chamois.
Depends how fussy you want to be I guess.

You can download Richard Wilhelm's instructions from his web page. I follow that.

I use Richard's instructions as well.

Rule #1 Never use your thumb or rub the lens toilet paper.
Nightforce put out a very good kit of brush, cloth and lens fluid. I use that.
-
I resist at all costs to touch the lenses when out hunting and only clean at home
I got the schooling from Richard as well

I use toilet paper but I DON'T rub the lens with it. I wash the lens with water to remove any debris (or whatever it is I need to clean the lens for) then dab it dry with the water absorbing paper. Best thing is I always carry some anyway.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it.

If its really dirty I use a glasses cleaning cloth and lens cleaning liquid From specsavers
Also be very careful what cloth you use as some will scratch i use one Designed for prescription glasses so should be fine on scope lenses
If its just a slight mark lens pens work well
