    Viper or Razor series though?
Their products are significantly tiered by range and therefore also performance & price. All too often this is not mentioned when comparing like for like.

I recently bought a Meopta Meosport 3-15 and have found it excellent. I used it in a comp out to 750meters and couldn't fault the dialing capabilities of it.
Price is good, glass is amazing, Milrad turrets, Illuminated, just a good all round scope. the only thing that doesn't tick the box for you is it is a 30mm tube, and therfore a bit heavier. However, if you can get past that, it's an excellent option worth looking into

    S&B Klassik 3-12 with P3 reticle ?

No dialing so you’ll have hold over which will start to get tricky past 350m.
But considerably lighter than the PMII and has similar feel and some toughness.

S&B do make a range of fancy hunting scopes now by mostly as big as the PM II and Steiner would be the other brand to look at.

I will be very interested to see what you end up with @norsk. I am going through a similar discussion with myself at the moment and can't quite find the perfect scope. The balance of weight/magnification and illumination is a tricky one. The rifle I am looking at changing the scope on is currently wearing a 3-9x42 Kahles which weighs 477gms with Talleys rings and keeps the rifle to a very nice 3kgs. I think I want more magnification, and I would like illumination and dial up. The Z5i sort of ticks all those boxes or another VX5 but the weight is getting up. Maybe the 4-12x Kahles (not sure what they cost) but is 12x enough magnification?
    First world problems eh.

The scope is for my Reindyr gun, because you can only hunt them between 7am and 7pm low light ability is not a crucial requirement. illuminated recticle is really nice because you might be picking a animal off on the edge of a flock and their coat and background are a similar colour, pretty dark and not hard to loose the cross of a recticle in.

I dont have brilliant eyesight, because I wear glasses hunting I think it somehow takes the edge off optical brilliance in a scope.I found my S&B scopes not as bright as my Meopta, the PMII was built like a tank but I didnt feel the glass was anything really special. I personally cant tell the difference between a Swaro and a Meopta just by looking through it.Kahles is nice and bright with that awesome bright red dot in the aiming point if you want it.

I cover alot of ground when hunting Reindyr, once I think we did 200km cross country over 5 days ,then carried 80 odd kilo 20 km out again.I dont get heavily invested in the super light weight trend but at the same time its not worth carrying more weight than you need to.

Bit of an update o this old thread.

    I just bought a ex demo Meopta R1 1.7-6x 42.

I dribbled all oer the Swaro and Zeiss offerings but for my eyesight Meopta has the best glass.
Ballistic turrets didn't really have the importance I formerly believed because Reindyr hunting you will have enough time to take the scope cap off and dial up using the regular turret.

The illum in the scope is really nice,it has an off position between power settings.

All in all its a basic robust scope with excellent glass for a snip at $800 NZD.

Here is the scope, its light enough and although the reticle isn't my first choice,I won't notice it with the dot on a Reindyr buck.

I can get ballistic turrets for $300 if I just can't live without them.

    Hi Norsk!
Considering the requirements in your opening post you went for something totally different. 6 magnification out to 500 meters?
Hope that you are happy with your new scope! Post a few pics from your reendeer hunts please!

    cheers Littlemorepork

That's the thing,I think I just became too used to alot of magnification. X6 is enough on a hunting rifle for me I think.

If I got caught shooting a Reindyr at 500m I would end up in court.
