Hi all,
I've got a VX6 to go on a Remington SA via Talley lightweights. I'm just wondering if there is anyone local who is experienced & enjoys doing this sort of thing that can help me out. Ideally someone with a 30mm lapping kit. I've got a torque wrench.

If you have a builders level, use that as well.
Mount lower scope rings to bases on rifle, use loctite if you want a real secure for the bases to the rifle receiver.
Lap the lower rings (remember the grit used is toxic to breath).
Fit the scope and tops of rings lightly (just enough to stop scope slipping) and have scope on highest magnification and adjust for correct eye relief position, ie slide back and forth until in your natural cheek weld, you have a clear view. Note pays not to do this in front of the window so your neighbours freak and you get a visit from the AOS squad. :D Mark with a pencil the eye relief position on scope, ie line around scope using ring as guide.
Set up rifle either on bipod or front and rear rest securely.
Rest level on tops of lower rings to set the rifle up flat and level.
Mount scope with top dial cap taken off to correct eye relief position (marked earlier).
Again lightly tighten top ring parts, so you can still just move scope.
Rest builders level on the flat of the top scope dial to adjust scope to be flat.
Gradually tighten screws on rings, checking scope remains level.
Don't over tighten screws to avoid damaging the scope.
Done. :)
PS, if your rings have the vertical split, you will have to use the bases/rail on the receiver to set up rifle flat with the level.
What I do is faf around first working out eye relief , mark on tube as described above where to mount scope relative to rings.
Put gun in a vise (put a towel around the stock o prevent damage)
Use cloths line level on action to ensure level.
Install rings again (if not like a tikka where you can use the middle of action)
Mount scope, lightly tighten rings
Place level on top of scope: Leopold you can use the caps or Zeiss take the caps off and use the adjustment bit which is level
Tighten each screw slowly alternating between rings
Ensure it remains level throughout

or ......... instead of using a bubble level, buy a digital angle finder. Secure the rifle, place the angle finder artoss the bottom half of the ring, zero it, than assemble the scope/rings and put the angle finder on the turret and rotate/adjust to zero.

Useing the bottom half of the rings doesn't guarantee a level action.
