scope options , which one ?

So my little Bergara BA13 has been chopped and I am ready to drop a scope on top.
It's in 308 , takedown and will spend it's time in a pack and put together and taken apart as needed.
Mainly a hunting rig for deer out to 300 - 400 max, maybe further if confidence builds and practice on gongs is made .
I don't want a monster scope perched on top as this defeats the purpose of a compact build.
All scopes mentioned have a ballistic reticule of some description and drop chart will be made to work impact points out for various ranges.

    Choices are within my budget:
    Vixen v1 , 3-12 x 40 , made in Japan
    Zerotech Thrive , 3-12 x 44 , made in China
    Athlon Talos , 3-12 x 40 , made in China

There's probably a Vortex model around that price point also .

I think I know which I will go for but feel free to throw your opinion in the ring , knowledge is power.
2nd hand is also a consideration but I am not really finding much out there.

    Cheers

Looking to buy a Bergara myself, I think up to 10x with hold over recital and dial up would be the go.
Got to keep it light in my opinion.

I had a Leupold 2-7X33 on mine until recently - swapped it over to a 2.5-8x36 with a S1 dial so I can quickly change between supers and subs. Both line up nicely when shouldering the rifle.

Not sure yet, I handed over to Gundoc and we discussed barrel lengths, suppressor , velocity and expected usage. He nodded wisely and said leave it with me.... I will pick it up this weekend and find out....

A surprise, how exciting! I asked because they come off the shelf with a 16.5 inch barrel. Love my BA13.

I went for the 20 inch version and 12 . 1 twist on purpose as it gave me more options for the cut down length , pumped to get it back, scope it up and start using it. They are a cool design .

If it helps I'm very happy with my Athlon Argos it's a great scope for the price solid dialing with good firm clicks.

    Hey mate,

I have a vixen v1 - absolutely love it on my 17HMR https://www.reloaders.co.nz/shop/Opt...lex+V5850.html - looks like they've come down in price as mine was $569.

What I have on my 308 Tikka bushpig - which goes happily out to 400 is a Leupold Vx3i 3-10 SF with a zero-stop. That what I'd go with but honestly the difference in glass between the two is almost imperceptable, but $1K in pricetag. The Vixen is amazing - I was told Japanese glass which probably explains it

    Cheers Paul.

Vortex strike force 1-8 I think there might be a higher mag 1-10 model also. I had one on a 308 and it was perfect out to 400 yards but the low end 1x mag let's you shoot very fast in the bush ir on moving targets.

+1 for the vixen, put a 4-16 on sons 223. very happy for the money.
Would suggest that particularly as you want to keep things compact you look to something more compact.
for deer size game out to 300 mtr and bush hunting something like a 1.5-6x42, or 2-8x32, 3-12x40 etc.

Remember the Vixon V1 3-12x44 doesn't have parallax adjustment. Which I've been told it's not needed by one Vixon 3-12x owner.
But I'm not convinced and would want any 10x plus mag to have the parallax SF.
