Thread: Slik mini sprint 3

Recently lost my slik mini sprint 2 tripod (with a vortex razor attached) off the back of the truck. Looking to replace the tripod with the new slik mini sprint 3. Has anyone had any experience with the 3 and if they are as good as the 2 was? Will be putting a manfrotto 494 ball head on it too. Thanks

I lost my Sprint Mini2 couple of weeks ago while looking for goats in some pretty unpleasant scrub.

CR Kennedy had a pretty sharp price on a replacement... I grabbed the last one they had in stock, but the guy I spoke to said they could easily get more from Aus...

Just brought a Sprint Mini3. Never owned a 2 but used a mates one quite a lot so knew it pretty well but got the 3 mainly due to availability and cost online in a sale ended up being comparable to the few places i could find indicating they still held stock on 2's. In honesty there is not a lot different apart from new grip and rapid leg position adjustment system (you just push central lever down with thumb) instead of lifting it up like you do on 2. This system is quicker to use once u get used to it, can be done with gloves but it has quite and audible click which is my only issue with it. The rubber grips are pretty firm compared to the foam ones on the 2 and not as thick to grab if you loved the ergonomics of your old one. Center friction knob is only other minor change - no plastic knurling like on 2 just a smooth alloy sleeve. You will need the 3/8 down to 1/4 adapter again to fit manfrotto 494 ball head as standard Slik ball head has not changed. I don't think there is any real change in OAL, height and weight - more just a facelift model upgrade

I had one of the 3's arrive this week. Works great. Got it in from B&H photo in the US. Much cheaper and upgraded to a Slik 120 ball head which is still light but has a higher weight rating.
